North Korea Develops Hunger-Delaying Noodle

20080825-qb-nkoreanoodles.jpgNorth Korea has developed a special hunger-delaying noodle to battle food shortages and hunger, according to Japanese pro-Pyongyang newspaper Chonson Sinbon. The noodles, which are made of corn and soybeans, are reported as having "twice as much protein and five times as much fat as ordinary noodles."

I don't even know where to begin because my mind is full of a puppet on a string in a movie going, "Hello, Hans Blix."

On the plus side, could be useful for nutrition distribution around the world.

On the minus side, could be DPRK propaganda BS, designed for internal consumption (so to speak) as much as for the outside world.

It's interesting to watch DPRK media anyway, as much for what it doesn't state as for what it implies. The government can't admit a lot of things, like its people going hungry, so it tacitly signals starvation in ways like this story.

Sad all around, any way you look at that awful government.

I don't believe Kim Jong-Il cares to create anything nutritious for his people. If the North Korean government did care, they would not have let 0.5-3.5 million people die of starvation in the late 90's, all the while promoting the benefits of eating only 2 meals a day instead of 3 meals to the starving masses. The people were also told the rest of the world was starving and that North Korea was actually doing better because of the leadership of their "great" leader.

It is rumored that North Korea is undergoing another bout of severe famine. I would not be surprised if this "nutritious noodle" story was an attempt by the government to fool the people into thinking they are less hungry than they actually are. And by the way, Kim Jong-Il should probably cut back on the noodles.
