No More Bar Cars on Chicago's Metra Lines

20080827-railbooze.jpgAs contracts with "refreshment car" vendors run out (the last one expires Friday), the regional rail network has chosen not to renew them: "The commuter rail line has decided to shut down its rolling taverns, ending an era that hearkens back to the days when executives in gray flannel suits climbed aboard club cars and lubricated the journey home with martinis."

I've ridden the Metra hundreds of times and never seen a refreshment car. I can only conclude I've been riding the wrong line!

Really? When did you ride? I took the metra milwaukee west line trains for 5 years and during rush hour there was almost always a refreshment car. I never went into one (I was in college and too young to drink) but thought it was kinda neat.
