Paris Bite: Matcha and Adzuki Duomo from Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki

20080808sadaharu.jpg

Despite appearances, this treat from Patisserie Sadaharu Aoki is not a tiny green hamburger attached to a giant ball of moss. It's actually a matcha and adzuki duomo, a green tea-flavored (matcha) ball of creamy goodness containing a shell filled with sweet red bean paste (adzuki), with a miniature matcha macaron stuck on the side. It's one of the most incredible taste sensations I've ever experienced, a perfect blend of two sophisticated culinary traditions. The delicate, crispy textures, the creaminess, and the sweetness are all classically French, but the flavors are unquestionably Japanese—a melding of Aoki's Tokyo roots and his Paris influences.

that looks like something long forgotten, lurking in the back of a fridge.

beautiful, going on my must visit list.

Having been to Sadaharu Aoki, I concur that HIS STUFF IS MEGA DELICIOUSSSS AND YOU SHOULD GO. I don't even like matcha-flavored stuff that much, but he makes it taste...awesomer.

omg. that looks so good. i love matcha!

i loved his shop! i agree that matcha usually doesn't do it for me, and i loved his stuff.
definitely grab the macaron sampler. the flavors are amazing. as were the macarons i had at laduree and pierre herme. yum, paris.

So that's what martian food looks like...

*drool* I LOVE matcha and azuki, especially in sweet stuff like this! My stepmother always sends me really cool pastries from Japan. I'll bet this was awesome!

I'd love to try that. It looks surprisingly appetizing to me (?) :)

Sigh...now I'm salivating and despondent that I'm not in Paris...

I just had the lemon and praline one there a week ago. yummmm. That was incredible!

that does not look even remotely appetizing. Looks like something Strongbad drew. "Den you got like the big fuzzy greeeen thing. Den uh just put a green hamburger on the side there....coming out the side."
