For Vitamin D, Drink Schlitz Beer!
Schlitz, with Sunshine Vitamin D, gives you the sunny source of health you need the whole year round. Beer is good for you—but Schlitz, with Sunshine Vitamin D, is extra good for you.
Now that's good marketing, not like today's ads that try to sell us sex and youthful energy. If only I had grown up in the 1930s—then I totally could have gotten my vitamin D from Schlitz Beer. [via copyranter]

I LOVE it! It's reminiscent of the cigarette ads that promoted relaxation, sophistication and manly prowess.

Ah, Schlitz. I actually really adore Schlitz -- it's by far the best of the budget Wisconsin beers, with odd sour cream notes and a clean, bright finish. But so far it hasn't managed to replace sunlight in my own personal War Against Rickets. Maybe I need to drink even more of it.

They recently released the original Schlitz formula beer in some markets (Milwaukee and Chicago to name a few). The original formula is way better than the swill they have been selling since the 70s. In fact the switch to the cheaper recipe is one of the main reasons Schlitz went from the number 1 brewer in the US to nothing.
So if you can get the new original formula, check it out. It was so popular when released a couple months ago that stores and bars were selling out. A liquor store that I frequent actually was rationing them to 1 six pack per customer.

I'm pretty sure that it would be illegal to have an ad like this today. My understanding is that federal law prohibits distributing the nutritional information on alcoholic beverages. I've seen some calorie information of late, so maybe the rules have loosened lately.
