Denny’s All Nighter Campaign Appeals to Cool Emo Kids

Denny's All Nighter

Denny's has been "feeding bands and music fans since 1953," but now they are hosting Warped Tour After Parties, running a music blog, adding "rock edge" and dimly lit ambiance to their restaurants late at night, and rolling out menu items designed by real rock stars.

Music blog The Modern Age declares the Denny's All Nighter Menu, featuring dishes created by music groups, possibly "the greatest marketing idea of all time." Does anything sound more delicious, come a drunken and hungry nighttime, than Hearts on a Plate: heart-shaped pancakes covered in strawberry syrup and white chocolate chips, developed by Eagles of Death Metal’s Jesse Hughes? Or Taking Back Bacon Burger Fries: fries topped with all the fixings of a cheeseburger, conceived by the band Taking Back Sunday?

The musicians' creations appear alongside late-night menu items like Potachos, (“freshly fried and seasoned kettle chips topped with crumbled sausage, bacon, bell pepper and onion mix, cheese sauce and shredded Cheddar cheese") and Sweet Ride Nachos, ("freshly fried flour tortilla chips tossed in cinnamon sugar, then topped with strawberry topping, raspberry sauce, seasonal fruit, hot fudge, caramel, white chocolate chips and whipped cream"). Oh my.

those sweet ride nachos sound great even though they were probably thought up by some poopy pop punk band

Those potachoes are off the book. Sorry for the crappy pics, but http://feistyfoodie.blogspot.com/2008/07/dennys-rockstar-menu-preview.html

ok i HATE denny's with a passion, but i'm not gonna lie, the potachoes and sweet ride nachos sound disturbingly delicious.

the nachos. wow. just...i think i drooled.

Oh man, if they had one after Warped Tour here, I'd so be there. Punk rock shows, too much beer, late night grease bomb at Denny's after? Yeah, done that more than a few times. Slow Food should probably revoke my membership now.

The Eagles of effing Death Metal came up with heart-shaped pancakes? How rock and roll.

So this is different than any other weeknight at Denny's between 11 PM and 4 AM how?

Wow the food sounds great from bands that suck. I'll need to check those dishes out some time I'm awake and actually want to get out of the house past 10 and before 4.

worldcupfever: djs?

i don't know why this makes me uncomfortable. i guess because it's just more publicity for shitty bands people already love.

that said, denny's still won't use vegan boca burgers (that miniscule amount of cheese in the regular boca burgers are apparently a make or break deal for stupid vegetarians) so i still have to keep my rock and roll lifestyle denny's free.

I don't think that's a DJ on the right, I think that's the host/cashier.

I think you nailed it on the head about why it makes you uncomfortable. I have a feeling it'll also help feed the ironic beard/mustache trend, which is unforgivable.

well, i do like beards, though not ironically.

i think he is a dj (or at least he is djing with an ipod) because he's got a pa speaker on his left.

Well well well maybe I gotta make a late night trip to Denny's. A blast from the past for sure.

I know this is going to make me sound old, BUT, back in the day I recall my local Denny's kicking out me and my (real - there was no EMO back then!) punk rock friends on a regular basis. My how times have changed. I'm off to eat my early bird special now...

@BPC: That sucks. In Hawaii and San Francisco, we never got kicked out anywhere, including Denny's, back in the early 1980s for being punks and goths. We just got a lot of stares.

I agree with how times have changed. With trendy mallrat stores like Hot Topic, the look is more visible and thus more acceptable. The attitude is not the same; not even by a long shot.

Ugh, DJs? I didn't realize they played that craptastic music as well. I guess I WON'T be checking those menu items out.
