Blogwatch: Cute Corn Cupcakes

Caution: Does not contain any actual corn. But that's the fun part! Blogger Peabody's corn-on-the-cob cupcakes employ jellybeans, yellow fruit chews and white decorating sugar to create the adorable impression of salty, buttery summertime goodness.

Very cute. I love the design. However:
"Caution: Does not contain any actual corn."
Well, that is if you aren't counting the HFCS and corn starches in the candy. Personally, I think it would be such much better if this was done without the candy. Maybe by making the corn kernels and butter pats with fondant?

That would be a lot of fondant: a substance that does not taste all that great.
On a side not, Peabody's blog is incredible!

Ok, after reading what types of jelly beans are used, maybe I'd rather take the fondant :)

Yeah, you're right about the fondant... Any other suggestions? I must reiterate that I love them, it's very cute. But what would be some creative ways to represent the kernels and butter without having to use the candy? White chocolate ganache might work, if you mixed in some food color...

ganache would work. Or some modeling chocolate (the example I'm thinking of would be from Ace of Cakes). I'm still fairly new at cake decorating, so I'm sure there are probably amazing products I am not familiar with. :)
