Popeyes Gets a Full Brand Makeover

Say goodbye to the ol' blue-and-red Popeyes logo, and feast your eyes on this revamped look for the fried chicken chain. Designed by Pentagram, the eye-popping orange and red color scheme with fleur-de-lis, symbolizing the chain's New Orleans hometown, is for the kids. Apparently, the younger generation considered the older logo "generic" and "tired." It kind of reminds me of the Burger King colors, but the black-and-white photos add a classy touch. [via Brand New]

Geebus. Is Pentagram doing EVERYONE'S fast food design now? Not too into this one. I guess I'm one of The Olds, tho.

And almost the same color scheme as Bobby's Burger Palace. I guess red and orange sell food.

It's a crime that Popeye is no longer part of the branding. Hasn't it been long enough? Isn't he retro yet?

I don't like it. Not one bit.

Bleh. Add me to those who aren't liking the new packaging. The pictures are kinda weird to me. I'm not in their target demographic though.

In a weird side note, there was an ad on this page for Trail Mix Crunch, a cereal I mentioned last week as the cereal I'm currently eating with my yogurt. Now that's some demographically sound advertising. And oddly creepy...stop watching me now. :)

Was Popeye ever part of the branding? Oh, never mind. Just found that they did do promo stuff with Popeye the cartoon/comic character but that the founder claims he named it after Popeye Doyle in the French Connection—wiki.

:( I liked old Popeye.

Pentagram seems obsessed with this color scheme.

Red and orange DOES sell food! Those colors connect to hunger responses since they're the color of ripeness and signal when a fruit is ready to eat. Take a walk through a grocery store and notice how many pre-packaged foods come in red, orange, or yellow bags. Then notice how many of those are over-processed and calorically dense.

NOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooos :(
Ugh, unhappy connections with that stupid McD's "I'm lovin' it" campaign...didn't that also feature lots of B and W people?

I wish there was a decent Popeyes in NYC. I think its really one of those chains where the quality is regional...
