Photo of the Day: Elephant Spout on Oil Bottle

potd-elephantspout.jpg

I opened my new bottle of grapeseed oil bought from a Korean grocery store expecting a run-of-the-mill spout. but instead flicked open the cap to reveal a tube-like protrusion. My first thought was, "Damn, that's awesome!" But then I took a closer look and realized the tube was part of a larger design: an elephant's face. The spout was elevated from "awesome" to "BEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN (related to bottles of oil)."

But seriously, isn't that an awesome design? Is anyone else's mind totally blown? (Please say yes, or else I'll think I'm insane.) I've lost count of how many times I've poured oil out of a bottle with a too-large spout and cursed the spout for releasing more oil than I wanted, aside from not being an adequate drip catcher and making my fingers slippery. Since I've used this bottle, I haven't had any problems with excess oil use or undesirable drippage. If any oil manufacturers are reading this, get those elephant spouts on your bottles, stat!

I'm not sure I'm a good model of sanity, Robyn, but I think that's both utterly adorable and cool! I want one now myself, but lack a local Korean grocer. D'oh!

Yep, that's cool.

Maybe they'll add an anteater to the lid lineup. :)

Practicality and cute-ness is only the start of what this bottle-top offers.

There are also the magical or lucky parts to be considered.

Since elephants are my fav animal I think I must find that oil! Not only cute, but functional too!

The pinnacle of functional cuteness--or would it be cute functionality? In any event, I'm going to find some of that oil.

I like my grape seed oil bottles, I get it by the gallon free!!!!! It's all I use.

Dude, I would have flipped out with happiness had I made such a discovery! It's rad.

perfection

I have never used grapeseed oil and probably never will have use for it but I am soooo getting that!!!

Cute + functional = AWESOMENESS.

I'm going to see if I can find this oil at my local Korean market.

My mind IS totally blown. I MUST have this grapeseed oil bottle.

Lessee here ...

"Ingredients: I trunk of grapeseed oil"

"Add one snoutful of oil"

"After cooking, garnish with a schnoz of oil"

Yeah, I think I'm liking that.

OMG You have to save and reuse this bottle or at least the spout! I'm going to go find one today!
@Luna LMAO you just adore confuzeling me dont you ;-)

I need this oil. STAT!

Holy crap!
I just went into my Kitchen and checked my similar looking oil bottle (I live in Seoul btw) but no elephant face! :(
Now I know what oil brand to buy though...solely for the elephant haha

@LPC - Love it!

Spray 2 sneezes of oil.
Add 4 sniffles of oil before serving.

I would have been super duper excited if I were you as well!!! That's such a cool unexpected discovery!

Btw, what do you use grapeseed oil for???

That is sooo cool! In light of that, I second the above comment, can you provide recipes so we can all go buy it now and use it instead of letting it go rancid, lol. (Dressings? I think that's where I've seen it before.) (And hair care products.)

@Moosie82-I have a suggestion for grapeseed oil that isn't necessarily food related- so sorry if it's a bit off topic. I mix it up with a few drops of essential scented oil (like lavender, or tangerine- to make it smell yummy) and put it into a small plastic bottle (like something travel size) and use it as an in-shower skin lotion- a tablespoon goes a LONG way! Rub on & rinse off.....This has saved my dry skin here in Denver.

@LunaPierCook: HAHA, those are great. ;D Although I quickly read "snoutful" as "snotful" and realized it's kinda like pouring out the elephant's snot...OOPS.

@Moosie82: Cooking! But nothing specific, just like when I'm...cooking anything. (I don't cook much though; my roommate cooks more often.)

@bisbee: Thanks for the suggestion, haven't thought of that before!

That is awesome!!! And no joke about other oil bottlers to get a clue. Packaging for Asian food often seems so kitschy, but at the same time, it's also some of the awesomest and useful. I used to eat this packaged lo mein that you would make in its plastic container. You'd pour boiling water into the container, let it sit a bit, then when you were done, tilt it--there was a built-in drain/colander corner. Stuff like that restores my fondness for the world.

Love! Now I have to go up to K-Town to find one.

oh man!! i have a bottle of italian dressing thats been giving me hell and it really needs this!

what a little cute elephant over-the-top of purple cap... imagine, every time you cook you may say and give its name, "hi bimbo it's cooking time!" (the eagerness to cook) or joking around with your friends, tell them while having a dinner that the food you cook was used from an elephant oil obviously their reaction was no way but you should clear it...

AWESOME CAP!

I TOTALLY was flabbergasted! I looked at my hubby and said I want one! lol too cute! And its purple! :D

WHERE CAN I FIND THIS ?????????????????????

I CANNOT FIND IT ON THE INTERNET FOR SALE..........

DO YOU KNOW THE NAME OF THE BOTTLE?

PLEASE RESPOND!!!!!!!!!

ANYONE???!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!??????????????????????
