Drank, an Anti-Energy Drink
Classic beverages have a certain form/function coalescence. Makes sense that a bitter shot of espresso (or four) will jolt you into wakefulness; a neon, sugary sports drink will propel your last treadmill mile; and a voluptuous red wine will wash down a plate of hearty braised ribs.
Drank: "Slow Your Roll" may very well be new to this lexicon. It's a carbonated, grape-flavored "anti-energy" drink. Drank is spiked with melatonin, valerian root and rose hips and comes in a pretty purple can.
The press release explains, "every aspect of this calming drink was inspired by today’s popular hip hop artists who embrace the much sought-after hip hop lifestyle that encourages people to capture a stress-free state of mind." So if all that caffeine has you buzzed, slow your roll, drink a Drank. It is reportedly good with vodka.

They took a page out of the Cocaine energy drink's marketing playbook. As pointed out on BoingBoing, the marketing for this is clearly a hat tip to the "Purple Drank/Sizzurp/Lean" drink of downing prescription only cough syrup as popularized by several rap songs.

That's great. Mix something that is supposed to calm you down with a downer already-alcohol. I'm sure it tastes good-but is that really a good idea??

I totally agree victorylow that this is a MUCH better alternative than mixing a stimulant with a depressant.
Having learned I have heart disease when I was 20 (despite being a very thin, non-smoker, healthy, active lifestyle), I wince everytime I see someone drink vodka and redbull and say a prayer they don't have hidden heart disease and they die because of their own stupidity.

My fave is the guy who comments over at VV that Houston has ballets and operas and whatnot, and all anyone wants to talk about is Purple Drank. When Houston produces a tenor as prominent in his field as Pimp C was in his, then maybe we can talk.
