Indiana Jones Crisp-Mint M&Ms: Meh

Oh, I think they'd melt in this guy's hands.

Earlier today, I was all about the Indiana Jones coconut-blasted limited-edition Adventure Snickers bar. In the comments of that post, Squiggle hipped us to the Indy-themed mint-crisp limited-edition M&Ms. That first prompted cries of "What does mint have to do with Indiana Jones?" Beats me; is there mint in the rain forest?

Then it prompted us to race out and get some. We grabbed a bag of the mint-crisp M&Ms and one of the Indy-themed peanut M&Ms. All I have to say is, I wouldn't fight the Nazi dude from Raiders for either of these so-called treasures. The crisp-mint M&Ms look sorta cool—with the different shapes printed on them—but they taste like run-of-the-mill Andes mints. And there's no discernable difference between the Indy peanut M&Ms and regular peanut M&Ms.

Yeah. The Nazi dude could keep them; he needs all the mystical anti-melting help he can get. More photos of the failed M&Ms, after the jump.

Mint-crisp limited edition M&M. They're oddly lumpy and have some funky Indy-themed drawings stamped on them.

Peanut M&Ms. No different from the non-Indy version aside from the Indy-themed drawings.

Innards. The mint M&Ms have a crisp, airy center.

I love that the Mint Crisp M&Ms have archaeological humor on the package, telling you to "dig" the new M&Ms

Are they paying you to promote all this crap, or are you actually subjecting yourselves to this on your own?

@simon: No. They're not. I wouldn't do that. Raphael here in the office found the Snickers bar while out at the deli the other day and thought it was worth it to post about. It's topical, because of the movie, and we thought people might want to know about them. Besides, do you think they would pay for a negative review of the M&Ms?!?!? ;)

I'm still going to try them if I ever find them! (I've checked Walgreens, Longs, Safeway . . .) I liked the crispy ones they made a while ago, and the mint makes 'em sound even better, to me.

Wha? Wait, but you were okay with coconut being related to Indy?! :P

I disagree! The mint m&m's are tasty... just got some at Shaw's today and half the bag is gone. I find their lumpiness charming.

Serious Eats is getting less and less serious each day with posts like these.

It's Serious Eats...not Snobby Eats. Sheesh.

I actually really like the mint crisp M&Ms, normally I don't like M&Ms! I agree with squiggle in that they are very difficult to find. My boss gave me a bag to share with a co-worker that she got at a trade show.

Sorry, but M&Ms and Snickers are garbage. There's nothing redeeming about them. Nothing "serious" either. I couldn't care less if you think that's snobby of me. Enjoy your diabetes.

Dude, it's a blog. On the internetz. It can't be that serious. Regardless of what it's call.

Also, I was under the impression that people who couldn't care less don't even bother to reply. Much less make inaccurate statements about diabetes.

@simon: Some days we're more "serious," other days we run more toward the goofy. Ideally, there'd be a perfect balance of serious, silly, important, and useful info on the site each and every day. We've all been working overtime on various projects here, and I think today we wanted to blow off a little steam.

@feistyfoodie: Nice to see you back on the site again! I was wondering where you went. I was OK with coconut being linked to Indy probably because I love coconut and gave it a pass.

@sisterrae, @ag3208: I know. Taste is a personal matter, obvs. I'm not a huge fan of the mint-chocolate combination. Never have been. So these mint-crisp M&Ms never stood a chance in my highly scientific taste test. ;)

I have to say, I also wanted to write the post about these things so I had an excuse to run the photo of a melting Nazi on Serious Eats.

I love the packaging that features a Harrison Ford either from the 1980s or a current image photoshopped to make it seem as though it's from the 80s.

@simon: it's just candy.

But they're limited edition! Someday they'll be worth MILLIONS!

@The Gastronomic Gamer: If you don't mind, I'd like to add a little extra action to your comment:

"But they're limited edition! Someday they'll be worth MILLIONS!"

[Wiggles fingers while widening eyes. Ends with crazy smile.]

Okay, that's better.

We were at the store lastweekend and the husband, a HUGE Indiana Jones fan, tossed a bag of the mint M&Ms into the cart. I looked at him as if he'd sprouted another head and said "Do you realize those are MINT?!?" He promptly returned them to the display from whence they came as he abhors anything mint flavored. He's a fan but he has his limits. I will definitely hunt down the peanut version for him.

I'm really wishing my chocolate aversion was done. I may stash a coconut-laden Snickers in the freezer with my Cadbury mini-eggs so I can consume both post-partum...

@simon- why do you even bother to read this site? Seriously. If the content bothers you so much just stop visiting.

I have been on the hunt for both the m&m's and snickers bar, but have not found them anywhere!! Will continue to search, hopefully I will find them this weekend. My husband thought it was quite funny last night as I was going to a few different stores looking for them

Ahh, that's probably why the opposite reaction from me. Coconut is a huge no-no, but mint and (dark) chocolate is heaven... mmm. Funny cuz I don't like mint otherwise, it's too sharp.
I've been around, just been struggling to stay sane and keep up with everything :) I should be around more often now though!

Oops, meant to add, and aww, I feel special :)

I was disappointed by the shrek m&ms so I will probably sit this one out. Still, I like the hieroglyphs
