Hydrox Cookies Are Back, Temporarily, But Recipe May Be Changed
Dunk 'em while you can, folks. Hydrox are back—but for a limited time only.
Hydrox, the cookies that the Kellogg company drowned as a brand in 2003, will be hitting shelves once more, the Wall Street Journal reports, as the company bows "to more than 1,300 phone inquiries, an online petition with more than 1,000 signatures, and Internet chat sites lamenting the demise of the snack."
But don't get too happy, Hydrox hounds. First, the comeback may only be temporary. "Kellogg's move is more about marketing and showing its responsiveness to consumers," the Journal says, "than about a permanent product reintroduction: The cookie will be sold nationally starting in August, but only for a limited time." (If reception is positive, the company may go permanent with the comeback.) Second, the recipe may be different, a company spokesman said—no trans fats, for one.

I used to be an Oreo freak. And, even though I don't eat them anymore, I still remember them with great fondness. Hydrox just never cut it for me!

I didn't even know that Hydrox cookies existed (I only came to the US for college), but somehow they just don't sound that appealing ... the name reminds me of "Chlorox"!

I switched to Hydrox when I became vegetarian at 13 because I knew Oreos contain lard--but I have to confess, even though meat has no appeal to me, I had to switch back to Oreos. (like Brownie, don't really eat them any more, but remember scraping the cream off with great fondness).
Hydrox are weak, and crumble upon twisting, scraping and/or dunking. The appeal to non-vegetarians and non-kosher people especially eludes me.

i love hydrox cookies, oreos were never a choice, sort of inadequate consolation and a reminder of what i was missing. oreos are gag me sweet, and could disappear without my noticing.

Hydrox are far much better than Oreo's. I just picked a bag of the New Hydrox formula and they are great I love them and they should stay for ever. I hope they stick around because a day without Hydrox is a day without a great cookie. Thanks for bringing them back. They were sorely missed.

I don't what some of the people are talking about I remember Hydrox cookies being the best over Oreo's. First of all Oreo's were the one's that broke easy when you tried to twist them apart. Hydrox came in packages with trays Oreo's came in bags or sleeves and had tons of crumbs and broken pieces because the cookie part was fragile. I remember eating these cookies when I was a kid in the 70's they were the best. I tried the new version there OK they are closer to Oreo's now then ever. I remember in the early 80's when the change to 100% vegetable oil and changed the taste and then try to pass Droxies off as Hydrox. Nice try but a big miss for fans of the orginal. They just made Oreo the undisputed King!!

Pseudo Oreos?! Hydrox came first (1908 vs. 1912). I don't know what they used to taste like, but the new Hydroxes taste better than Oreos, in my opinion. The filling is much better; less sweet and mushy, but with more flavor.

pjustus is right. Hydrox came out first and the difference to Oreo's is like the comparison of semi-sweet chocolate to regular chocolate. The original Hydrox was nowhere near as sweet, both the cookie and the filling, as an Oreo. I'll have to taste the new Hydrox to make an opinion now, but if they kept close to the original recipe, then Hydrox is the much better cookie, especially if you're not into really sweet stuff.

Oreo's are just a marketing phenomenom - Oreo's are the worst cookies ever - it's only because of the marketing by Nabisco that they have succeeded.
I dare any of you to challenge me on the Oreos vs. Hydrox war - you will lose and big time!!!

I had to Move the No where New Mexico, and thought that i lost my Cookie because of Location.. NOW , I find They, Are NO MORE??? What in heck is going on.. I absolutly refuse to eat any Stale Hydrox, ie, OREO. They are a Lousy Kids Cookie.. I WANT MY HYDROX DAMMIT..... NOWWWWWW
And, When do Money Grubbing Kelloggs buy them out.. ????????

There's nothing like Hydrox cookies. I enjoyed them over 40 years ago. I recall the unique flavor that Oreo is just not able to duplicate. I miss Hydrox and the chance to have them again would bring back so many childhood memories. Hydrox started it and they simply are the greatest!

My so (10) is an oreo addict. He eats 3 every night. I have become concerned with the trans fat issue and tonight we had an 'oreo-like' taste test including Hydrox. Although he stands by the Oreos as number one he thinks the Famous Amos are a close second...however no one has double stuff!!

Hydrox are far superior..Oreos hav a somewhat bitter aftertaste.
Also miss those pink and whitw /w coconut cookies Mallowpuffs.
Ate Hydrox all through '50's to 90's. Bought 16 pkgs. when they appeared
last anniversary year. They should be brought back as a holiday item
November/December..they'd sure sell.
