Happy Macaron Day!

20080320-macaronday.jpg

If you're in Paris, today is the day to visit Pierre Hermé and grab some free macarons, along with help raise money to treat rare diseases. (And if you don't live in Paris, don't even try to find anything as good as Pierre's macarons; you will fail.)

To celebrate the third-annual Macaron Day, Pierre Hermé shops are offering three free macarons plus a special raspberry chocolate macaron to raise money for Fédération des Maladies Orphelines (an organization dedicated to treating rare diseases). To donate money to the organization, buy one or more red macarons. I recommend shooting for "more"—besides that it's for a charitable cause, any excuse to eat lots of macarons sounds good to me.

finally, a food day I can get behind! eat those macarons everyone!!

I know where I'm going to be this time next year.

Drats, I've still never had a macaron.

And it makes me bitter. The way some people are about Valentine's Day, that's how I feel right now about Macaron Day. Sadness!

Two years ago today, my husband and I finally got to Pierre Herme on our last day in Paris. We had about 5 euros left between us so we figured we'd just try one or two. They insisted we have three each and we (in our pitiful French) kept trying to explain that we didn't want all that and were terrified of going to the register and having to explain that they'd have to put them back but Voila! It was Macaron Day and they were free! We thought we'd won the lottery.

WHAT??? Free macarons, and Pierre Herme's too? How I wish I was in Paris at this moment! >___

what about the Herme outpost in Vegas. I love laduree's macarons.

@deb: LUCKY!!!!
