Starbucks Eliminating 600 Jobs

We're all used to Starbucks expanding, so it's news when the coffee giant resorts to layoffs to bolster the bottom line. None of the eliminated positions were in retail stores.

Soon they may have to resort to making decent coffee to boost sales. Egad.

I'm glad my brother won't be looseing his job (he's retail)
But has anyone noticed that the sandwiches are back!?

The only Sbux units I've ever seen with sandwiches, fruit and a few other things in addition to their way too sweet pastries were in highway rest stops. I'm in Florida and the urban units I've frequented didn't have any of that.

I must be in the minority because I like Sbux coffee... I don't get fancy drinks, no seven pump mochas - usually bold brew or cappuccino which is just coffee with steamed milk. (I'm a freak for foam.)

For crying out loud, the growth had to stop sometime. They could have avoided tossing people out of their jobs if they had only stopped growing at the saturation point.

I think the sandwiches will go eventually, but Starbucks is waiting for the contract to run out or something. I think.

They're still growing....they've only _slowed_ the growth. They're still going to open something like 1000 new stores next year.

I, too, like the coffee. Haven't developed a fondness for any pastries, though they have a turkey sandwich some days at the shop near my office that I like quite a bit.
