Photo of the Day: Deep-Fried Octodogs
They're hot dogs! Their octopi! They're...octodogs? Biggie of bento idea blog, Lunch in a Box, shows that deep frying octopus-shaped hot dogs comes out with more attractive results compared to boiling the hot dogs. Try them out for your next bento box!

That is an aesthetic that is distinctly Japanese, IMHO. And I don't know anyone who wouldn't get a thrill out of seeing these.

I'm new here so at first: hello from Norway. As I love seafood, I thought this was a great post to start responding too: well, I know its not actually seefood, but for sure it looks delicious!
If you like to know a bit about food traditions from Norway, feel free to dig in:

Actually Renny, I guess it could be considered seefood due to it's visual elements.

These dogs have been cut much like most Central Europeans cut sausages before they impale them to cook over a campfire. It was dusk the first time I encountered this practice and I thought everyone was roasting frogs!

Love the pictures. I grew up in Russia and hotdogs were often on the menu. To make them more fun, my parents would cut the ends of the hotdogs in quarters (not going all the way to the middle; just making a deep x cut) and then sauteeing them in a pan. Good memories :)
By the way, I saw your article in WA Post about cooking for one. I cook for myself quite a bit and have a bunch of easy ideas on my blog: check it out!

I've seen hot dogs deep fried in woks and cut up in all sorts of decorative manner throughout many countries in Asia.

I know many Colombians who regularly fry up hotdogs, or chorizos cut in exactly this same pattern. I must say a deep fried sausage with its crispy exterior and ultra juicy inside is a pleasure I too often partake of.

This reminds me of my childhood! My parents would cut up hot dogs just like these and I loved it. I thought it was just a Filipino thing :)

For some reason they all look obscene to me...
