A Giant Win for the Giants, a Small Win for Me

It was one of the greatest three and a half hours of my life, and shockingly it had nothing to do with winning my bet with Boston Globe food editor Sheryl Julian or the seriously delicious spread I put out for ten friends. I will enjoy the lobsters Julian is sending (let the record note that I got no points in this bet).

And the food we ate was great—don't get me wrong. We had a bo ssam (pork shoulder) and all the fixin's (chicken wings, lettuce leaves, rice, sauces, kimchi, Kewpie cole slaw, homemade crackerjacks) from New York chef of the moment David Chang's fledgling catering effort, and it was all incredibly delicious. I also made some nachos with Scoops, Butler's Rothbury Red cheese, a can of mild Ro-Tel, and a bag of Oscar-Meyer real bacon bits. The Scoops make the nachos easy to eat, almost downright elegant, something one of my male guests noted was not a word he usually associates with my food. I got a little fancy-pants with some popcorn I bought at Fairway that I splashed with some of this new incredible organic white truffle oil I'll going to tell you about later this week. It was all crazy good, but not half as crazy good as my Giants.

My Jints literally rocked the house in Phoenix and rocked my house on West End Avenue in New York as well. How crazy did I and my seven friends get? After the Giants' improbable game-winning drive we simultaneously broke out in an awful, loud, spirited, and heartfelt rendition of the old Laura Nyro song "Eli's Comin'." None of us knew any of the words besides, "Eli's comin,' hide your heart, girl," so we just sang it over and over again because somehow it just seemed right. And maybe, just maybe, they heard it in Phoenix. It was that kind of night, when a bunch of grown men get to be little kids again, yelling at the TV set and rooting for a team that we were convinced could hear us. Based on the outcome, maybe they could.

Serious Eaters, what did you eat? Was your house rockin'?

There aren't a whole lot more words. Eli's coming, hide your heart, girl. Girl, you better hide your heart.

Ed-

Welcome to the lucious world of popcorn and truffle oil! My boyfriend turned me on to it two years ago and has ruined popcorn (for the better) for me since.

The Pats lost; I shut my phone off and fell asleep. Enjoy those lobstahs.

Baby Manning had something to prove and Brady was simply done proving. See what Sibling Rivalry can achieve?? He elbowed his runny-nosed way right to the winners' table at the Manning family home.

I think Karma had something to say as well, not rewarding the Pats for their scandal - hence my coining them the Cheatriots.

House was crazy rockin. We had pulled pork, baked beans, garlic bread, queso dip, stuffed mushrooms, corn bread cherry cobbler and I made a Key Lime Cheesecake...And lucky to have a zillion people around to eat all of it. Proud to say I didn't eat to excess and I'm sure I wore off a calorie or two jumping and screaming.

And I'll be plenty jealous of you guys in lower Manhattan. I worked there for 21 years and have many a fond memory of ticker tape parades.

Dang!! I forgot the Layered Mexican dip! :D

I channeled the pending Chinese new year {resisted serving Rat in it's honor of this year} but made some steamed diced shrimp.ginger.scallion dumplings with a killer dippping sauce & some scallion crepes with a "pulled" szechaun sauteed roasted duck. Tried to spin finger food for the foootball game, I guess.

I made an enormously popular Oreo truffle dessert from a recipe that one of your readers had posted awhile ago.
But of course, I had to eat it with a side of humble pie being from New England and all.

Our house was certainly rockin'. First with the best burgers I've ever made, and then the G-Men, nuf said.

i don't have a tv and don't follow football, but i knew the giants had won because of all of the joyous screaming in my apartment building.

btw it was really easy to get a table at lupa yesterday!

I also made white truffle popcorn! It's been a while since I COULD NOT stop eating something.
