You Are What You Eat, Candidates

Could this be why Barack Obama won in Iowa last night—and why Romney didn't? From an opinion piece in yesterday's New York Times: "... In 2007, the [Hamburg Inn No. 2] served several candidates and their spouses, including Bill Clinton (Swiss, tomato, and green pepper omelet with home fries); Barack Obama (Iowa omelet of ham, hash browns, and American cheese, with sweet-potato pancakes); and Mitt Romney ('It was so crowded,' says [Hamburg owner Dave] Panther, 'that he didn’t have time to eat.')." Bonus: The Hamburg Inn No. 2 menu

Sweet potato pancakes? No wonder he's presidential material!

I know! And look how he was the only one to order the Iowa omelet with American cheese. You'd think that'd be a no brainer, but come on, people! When in Rome ... (And the sweet potato pancakes are a nice touch that puts a little bit of the unexpected into an otherwise ordinary breakfast.)

"Could this be why Barack Obama won the Democratic caucus in Iowa last night—and why Romney didn't?"

I'd say that has more to do with Romney not being a democrat...

I used to live a few blocks from Hamburg, and that Iowa Omelet does wonders for hangovers AND caucus outcomes.

Yeah. You got me there, Prairie. The bit after the em-dash was a last-minute add-on and I didn't reread to make sure it made sense. Just fixed it ;)

LiveToEat: Yeah. The Iowa omelet and similar variations in other states usually does the trick. heh.

Thanks, Prairie, for the menu. Just added it to the post!
