Photo of the Day: Pasta in a Waffle Cone
Daniel Gray of Epicourageous in Seoul visited Korean food chain Balena to try the portable food that you never knew you wanted: pasta in waffle cones! For as little as 2,000 won ($2.13) you can walk away with a cone of "Primavera" pasta, while meat-hungry eaters may prefer the 3,900 won ($4.16) cone stuffed with "Top Choice Chop Steak." Unfortunately, Gray didn't have the time to describe the taste of the pasta-cone combo—he was in a hurry to eat live octopus.

Wow. Just wow. South Korea is at the forefront of food invention.

That looks awesome. Not exactly on my or Ed's diet list right now, but I sure do want one!
seyo at 6:27PM on 01/10/08
Seriously seyo? I'm going to have to stop looking at photos of food I guess, because I see it and say, "Ewww". I had better stick to reading recipes. Gives me a much better of idea of taste, and I'm less likely to stick my foot in my mouth, hurt anyone's feelings, eat my words and have them thrown in my face, ad nauseum.
New Year's resolution: No more commenting on food photos, unless I can truthfully say something nice.

Seyo: I'm with you. This thing's great! I'm a strong proponent of food-in-a-cone. Be it ice cream, pizza, or this. Nice find, Robyn!

Spaghetti in a cone is also strangely popular in Paris.
NYminknit at 7:55PM on 01/10/08
Now, that's just SILLY.

How would one eat this conic treat?
AllenW at 10:36PM on 01/10/08
I'd probably eat elbow macaroni pasta in a cone...but not spaghetti!
gourmeted at 11:25PM on 01/10/08
maybe pasta in a bread bowl would make more sense.
bionicgrrl at 12:15AM on 01/11/08
i have to say, that looks just disgusting.

Finally--a solution for how to serve foods that you can't stab onto a stick.
OneWallKitchen at 9:20AM on 01/11/08
Blech!
RichardCrystal at 9:35AM on 01/11/08
Make it a garlic bread cone, and I'm there.
Lauren Krueger at 11:06AM on 01/11/08
Lauren, you're so funny! I'm surprised no one has asked if the cones are sweet or savory. Since they look like ice-cream cones I'm assuming they're sweet, In which case I reiterate, "Blech!".
RichardCrystal at 12:50PM on 01/11/08
Lauren and Richard said exactly what I was thinking... If the vessel is savory, I'll try it. And I have to agree that elbow mac or some other bite-size pasta would be much more sensible than the spaghetti. It would be great with a few nice meatballs... On sticks!

I'll stick with Korean BBQ. To be kind, that looks unappetizing.
Fillippelli the Cook at 1:15PM on 01/11/08
Adam, have you the The Jerk? Pizza in a cup.... LOL
seyo at 3:21PM on 01/11/08
sadly, you have to eat this with a fork and the cone gets all soggy because of the steam. it's an interesting concept, but not one that was totally thought out.
Daniel Gray at 10:12PM on 08/26/09
I come from Korea.. It's awesome there, but I CAN'T believe somebody put PASTA in a WAFFLE CONE. That's just dang hillarious.
