Compulsory Cooking Classes for British Students
Cooking classes will be required for 13 to 14-year old students in the UK to help battle the obesity crisis and encourage healthier lifestyles as adults. These lessons will focus on teaching the students how to cook eight healthy, basic meals. The British government is taking recipe suggestions—send yours to getcooking.consultation@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk. Sounds like a great idea. The only thing I learned to cook in home ec was apple crumble-now there's a healthy staple! I didn't learn how to cook until I went to grad school and decided that boxed mac and cheese or canned soup were no longer acceptable dinners on a daily basis. Some basic skills could go a long way if the kids are engaged in the process.

Sounds like a wonderful idea as long as your basic English "pub fare" (which I love, BTW) is excluded.
