Photo of the Day: Peppermint Marshmallows

potd-peppermintmarshmallows.jpg

Morgan Moore's homemade peppermint marshmallows look perfect for the holiday season. If you've never made marshmallows before, start by watching Design Sponge's marshmallow-making video tutorial. Swirl red food coloring into the surface of the marshmallow batter to get the marbled look.

Loved the video! Gourmet marshmallows are quite poplular right now (and super $)---this could be a fun project & impressive holiday gift. Local chocolatier sells several flavors including cinnamon (good for hot chocolate) & raspberry.

i think i'll skip the red food coloring, because they're made from ground beetles :)

Thanks for the links! I'll definitely be trying these out, it looks pretty easy and I know, no one I know can pass up marshmallows. :3

I made homemade peppermint marshmallows this year, and everyone loved them! I used Alton Brown's recipe for regular marshmallows, but instead of vanilla, I added peppermint extract, red food coloring, and when it tells you to put powdered sugar and cornstarch in the pan, I also added crushed candy cane crumbs. I like the swirl effect of this one though.

these are too pretty to eat! i'd be tempted to frame and stick them on my wall =p
