Seriously Delicious Holiday Giveaway: Two Peter Luger Steaks

peterluger.pngToday we're giving away a package of two prime, dry-aged ("longer than four weeks") porterhouse steaks, thanks to the generous folks at Peter Luger. These steaks are not small. Each weighs more than two pounds. The steaks come with two bottles of Peter Luger steak sauce and a bag of chocolate coins.

It really depends on my mood--usually a ribeye, but I have a hard time saying no to an offer of a hanger steak.

In our house, we love any steak.... period. Given the choice, I always choose a porterhouse. Usually we eat them at about an inch thick so they cook up real nice on the grill, we prefer them med. rare.
Our brother-in-law buys them from a popular meat freezer plan and pays a fortune for them, and they are nothing to write home about....I prefer to go to the store and pick them out myself, choosing ones with lots of marbling for that tender, juicy taste.
Ok, now you've got me really hungry for steak.....

My summer as a butcher taught me that a porterhouse has the highest quality-to-cost ratio, but when I'm craving beef, I want flank steak, marinated for hours in garlic and mustard.

I love a great T-bone grilled with fresh garlic.

Their marinated porterhouse is considered the best in the US. I am lucky enough to be assigned to a project less than a mile away from their Brooklyn location. Needles to say, I get there for lunch as often as I can and have the porterhouse (for two or four) medium rare.

My hubbys steak

Thick, aged, porterhouse steaks like these are wonderful when cooked on the grill medium rare and then carved. We use a product called CHAR CRUST on our steaks. It gives the steaks a steakhouse char on the backyard grill. The marbled red interior is almost too beautiful to eat! And, our late dog would go nuts waiting for the T bone.

Porterhouse has my vote then Rib-Eye then T-Bone and then there were none.

Porterhouse, with a fresh ground black pepper rub, seared on a super hot grill, flip it once and put it on a plate, rare, eat the rib eye and save the tenderloin for last.

It's been way too long (darn this diet) but I LOVE a Porterhouse, medium, with mushrooms and a baked potato. MMMM!
