Cook the Book: 'The Martha Stewart Living Cookbook: The Original Classics'

20071217-msclassicsoriginal.jpgThis week's Cook the Book is The Martha Stewart Living Cookbook: The Original Classics. Having worked at Martha Stewart Living magazine for a number of years in my pre–Serious Eats days, I know firsthand the amount of exacting work that went into creating, testing, and editing these recipes, many of which are from Living magazine's articles throughout the years. They've been the source of a number of delicious meals and treats I've made for myself and others over the years. I might also add that the recipes here are not only a pleasure to cook from but reside in a book that features some wonderful art direction—with elegant typefaces and beautiful and helpful photos. As always, we'll be highlighting some choice recipes from this cookbook this week.

And, as always, we'll be giving away five (5) copies of the book. All you have to do is tell us, in the comments here, if you've ever cooked from a Martha recipe and, if so, what.

Five winners will be chosen at random from among the commenters, and the comments will remain open until Monday, December 24 at noon. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.

I've always found Martha's recipes to work well, and assume they're always well tested.

I think I made a batch of cookies that she once described on her show. I was sorry to hear that her mother, a fixture on her earlier syndicated show, recently passed away.

I've made more than a couple successful recipes from Martha Stewart's "Everyday" half-size magazines. I especially recommend her recipe for turkey meatballs with bocconcini mozzarella. Seriously good times.

yes, baked fruit of some sort many years ago.

Martha Stewart's macaroni and cheese recipe is wonderful. It features lots of grated gruyere which makes it especially delicious. But, I've found that the recipe is more than just great ingredients - it's a great method, as well.

I've made the low fat pumpkin muffins, and they're great! I recently saw a recipe for an autumn vegetable inspired pizza with ricotta cheese and I'm thinking of making that next.

yes! i made her new york crumb cake recipe from her BAKING cookbook. never baked with that much butter but of course was delicious!

Oh gosh, I use her recipes all the time! Just today I pulled out my Dec '05 issue for reference on "making rolled cookies". Tis the season! Let the good times roll..... ; )

I think I made a galette or couronne in one of her baking books...Certainly some kind of cookie.

Nope. Never.

nothing yet....

i've made some delicious butternut squash soup, and also butternut squash fries.

no,
never.
would.
sounds good.

the crumb cake is fantastic

I've never made a "Martha Stewart" recipe per se, but I have made several recipes from Everyday Food (both the magazine and TV show) which are Martha Stewart productions, so that counts...right?

spiced nuts, they were very good.

never have...will hopefully give that mac and cheese recipe a run soon, though

I helped my husband make his first pie for Thanksgiving--apple pie with crumb crust from the baking handbook.

I made Martha Stewart's Roasted Fall Vegetable and Ricotta Pizza and it was divine! I especially liked that the roasted vegetable recipe made twice the amount required to make the pizza. The extra veggies made a great snack while waiting for the pizza to cook! Great fall recipe!

i've made a ton of her recipes. i think they are fantastic for weeknight meals because they are always so simple.

my favorite is this chicken and lima bean stew that is extremely easy to make and very flavorful (probably because it uses about a half a bottle of worcestire - not gonna spell check that word).

I haven't used any of her recipes yet, but would love to have the new book. I have watched her show and think her recipes all make sense...not far out...

One of my favorite Martha Stewart recipes is the Raspberry Swirl Cheesecake. I'm also a fan of her Cheddar Cheese pie crust. Yum Yum!

No, but that Mac & Cheese recipe sounds delicious.

Sugar Cookies.

Cooked her turkey recipe for Thanksgiving one year. Very good.

I made a wonderful chocolate cake topped with fluffy white 7-minute frosting for a birthday several months back. It came out perfectly and the frosting has become my "go to" recipe ever since.

A fantastic braised chicken.

many of her cookies...earl grey shortbread, cream cheese walnut cookies.. her christmas cookie magazine is fantastic!

I have never cooked from a Martha recipe but would love to try!

i've made a few from the everyday mag. but my wife i believe has made some of the baked goods.

You know, I've always like Martha but can't think of a recipe of hers I've ever made. That should change! I think I'll start with a few of the above suggestions...

All sorts of things - especially from her comfort food book. I will say though - I love Martha a lot, but the perfect chocolate cake totally wasn't. But other than that, everything I've made of hers has worked out really well.

Martha is one of my fav recipe sources! Love her marinated flank steak, fettucini alfredo, spaghetti alla carbonara, sour cherry pie, blueberry pie, and more appetizers than I can name!

Never made a Martha recipe before--though if what you say about her mac 'n cheese is true, I definitely need to give her a shot!

I do not remember, but I'd really like a copy of the book. Thanks!

I have not yet made a Martha recipe, BUT... A good friend of mine was on Martha's legal team and she baked him fresh cookies and made lemonade. This isn't to say I haven't wanted to make a Martha recipe, but back when I did most of my Martha reading I was still afraid to bake. I have destroyed the fear.

No, but with her cookbook I could get started...

yes, i made excellent chunky walnut and chip cookies from a recipe on her website.

I've never cooked from a Martha recipe! I love her presentations, though, and I keep buying copies of Everyday Food without actually using them.

her sugar cookies are great.

I used her sugar cookie recipe for cut outs yesterday!

i'm about to make her lime melt-away cookies for christmas in a few days. i've never made them before but am excited to see how they turn out.

Not yet, but I'd like to try.

I made some great spiced nuts- got the recipe from the martha stewart website- they were a bit hit!

never made anything of martha's... but would sure like to try! cookbook me, please! :)

Lots...not ashamed to admit. She's got great recipes. My all-time favorite (know it by heart) is her simple tomato soup. SO yummy and a perfect way to use up all your extra summer tomatoes...

Mmmmmmm....summer....

Hopefully, this book will make that a reality.

Love Martha, haven't ever gotten a chance to try out her recipes. Would love the opportunity!

I've used a recipe from her magazine for sweet potatoes roasted with butter and maple syrup twice, but sung its praises often. It also turned me to the wonders of real maple syrup.

a long time ago, some sort of tomato sauce. i think it was good.

I haven't yet, but various things have looked tempting.

I've never made any Martha Stewart recipes.

Sure - I made her "Jailhouse Rock Candy".

Just kidding. Actually I don't have any of her books yet -and I will make one of her recipes if I win a book!

i havent actually made anything of hers yet

I've saved up a bunch of those little perforated recipe cards from her magazine, but I don't think I've used a one.

chewy, chocolate gingerbread cookies. Great, making a batch tomorrow.

At the holidays, I've made her preserves and chutneys to give as gifts to other people. They turn out quite nicely!

I love her fried chicken recipe!

Yes, Boston Cream Pie from her website - came out great.

No, but I could start.

I haven't yet but promise to if I win the book, and I'll even write about it here!

Nothing yet, but I'll start if I win this book! :)

I have watched Martha Stewart on TV and have read several issues of her magazine (my mom has a subscription), but I have yet to try a Martha Stewart recipe, unless I already have and didn't realize it.

Her chocolate chip cookies, and a fruit-crisp sort of thing.

I have made numerous baked goodies from her baking book and they always come out perfectly. Baking recipes are the only 'Martha' I have ever done, so I have this on my wish list! ...

No, but I've made recipes like hers. I always find her recipes to be slight variations on recipes I have in cookbooks I already own. She's good for ideas, though.

I've made her ricotta cheesecake once and it turned out quite well. It reminded me of a cake my grandmother used to make.

never have but definately would if i were to win this book :)

Yes, citrus shortbread cookies. They were wonderful.

Just this weekend I made baked farfalla with sausage. My husband responded with an enthusiastic, "This is *good*, Hon!" and said it was probably the best pasta I've ever made! It was quite tasty, I must say.

Almond Crescents for the Christmas cookie extravaganza.

her coconut macaroons, which are a snap to make and delicious. also, her honey roasted figs, totally addictive.

I've made stuff from Everyday Food. Her mustard/fennel/celery seed encrusted pork loin stands out as a favorite.

I'm not a baker, but I attempted to make a plum tart, turned out mediocre under my unskilled hands.

I have never cooked from one of her recipes

My first attempt at a pork tenderloin roast was Martha's sage- and garlic-rubbed version, and it turned out beautifully. I love the four-dish dinner recipe cards in every Living magazine; I've got probably four years worth saved in a binder.

I must admit that I've never cooked from one of her recipes, but if I win the book...

I made her sweet potato pie with a graham cracker crust. It was terrific.

Because my freinds and family always enjoyed the apple and dried cherry pies I make, I decided to try Marhta Stewart's Pear and Dried Cherry pie recipe last year. It was quite good and remains among my repeatable successes.

cupcakes, for my grandmother's birthday party

Cookies! I love Martha.

I got my caeser salad recipe out of a Martha Stewart Living magazine. You make it right at the table - the dressing from scratch - and it's always a big crowd pleaser.

I haven't yet, but I loved looking through my friend's copy of one of her books

Not a thing (yet) - one of those shows where it all seems like a good idea, but... all the measuring. I need to give her recipes another go!

I must have because I look at her website all the time, but I can't recall anything in particular.

I used to work at Marthe Stewart Living here in Chelsea NYC and so have cooked more of her recipes than I can list here.

They all tend to be well tested and none of them make it into an MS-branded publication of any sort unless they're solid, reliable successes.

The descriptions, even for the more ambitious/complex recipes are always clear, and as I said, the recipes are always reliable.

My favorite of all time is her "underpaid, no benefits-having, soon to be suffering a nervous breakdown assistant" flambe.

Um, I am one of the Daring Bakers who had the "pleasure" of making the infamous Martha Stewart Deepest Darkest Crepe Cake from Hell! On a good note, I love the refridge cookies from her Baking Handbook and make them often.

So many. I am a huge fan of her recipes as the recipes always work! and are delicious. Onion Tart with Smoky Bacon, Muffuletta, Spring Cake (?) decorated with the marzipan vegetables on a bed of crumbled Oreo's (I go way back)... but my favorite was her recent recipe for Latke's (the ones with a shot of beer). I made them this year and they were perfection from the first to the last. No need to ever look for another latke recipe!

i haven't, which now that i think about it find strange cause i love simple recipes...

No, not yet. Her ingredients always intimidate me.

Can't remember if I have or not...

I've made so many Martha Stewart recipes, I cannot remember them all. The wonderful things about Martha is that she knows all the great chefs. What was wonderrful about her old show was that she introduced us to so many of greats and their recipes. Some of what I've cooked, Martha-wise: her macaroni and cheese, mini-meat loaves (amazing), cod cakes (requested by all my friends), her turkey (twice), turkey burgers, southwestern burgers, many hors d'oeuvres from her hors d'oeuvres book, a slew of cookies, rugelach.....and on and on and on....

I made her Chewy Chocolate Gingerbread Cookies....Wow! Not only did they turn out perfectly and taste absolutely delicious, but they looked just like they did on the show. Everyone who had one was impressed; they made me look like a real professional baker. I also made her Sweet Potato Biscuits at Thanksgiving and these were also a big hit. I have more of her recipes saved that I've been inspired by occasionally from her show, but have yet to try them.

I never thought about it before, but I don't think I've ever tried one of her recipes. I'm searching for some now...

i subscribe to everyday food and have made various recipes over the years. my favorite was a stir fry of bacon, corn, and scallions that is so simple and delish that i make it constantly during corn season.

I use her recipes all the time. I started out using my stepmother's copy of her Entertaining Book and also one of her first Every day ones. Now I use recipes from her website..her chocolate-cherry.oatmeal toffee cookies are amazing (actual a recipe from a friend of hers).

Her cookies are great.

I have made Martha's onion soup recipe from her original Entertaining Book - it is an excellent recipe.

I never have, but I am excited to try.

I've made her roast chicken and the mac & cheese

I have made her Lasagne with Spinach and Smoked Ham from her Entertaining cookbook.

I've made Alexis' Chocolate Chip Cookies, they're crunchy so if you like soft chewy cookies this recipe isn't for you.

super easy and amazing chocolate molasses cookies from Everyday Food

That Mac N Cheese recipe rocks....I would love to have more of her recipes....

I've made many Martha Stewart recipes in my day! Favorites include Beef Wellington, Sloppy Joes, Key Lime Bars, and the one I've been making almost every week for the last couple of months, Chocolate Chip Cookie 101 (I prefer the Thin and Crispy version myself).

I've made her mac n cheese. Fancy that.

I recently bought her Baking Handbook and her Fudgy Brownies have become my go to recipe. Not to compare them to fast food (but hereI go) they're the closest I've come to the dense chocolate-y-ness of a Pret brownie ("healthy" fast food here in NYC).

I have been cooking and baking from her books forever. I have many of them and they are very good. Every once in a while there is a recipe with a problem, but in general she (or actually her staff) does a good job. I am looking forward to her Wedding cake cook book coming out next week.

Yes, I've tried a few. I really liked the chive and cheese scones though.

I made several of her dessert recipes from her simple chocolate chip cookies to her apple galette... delicious.

Garlic bread and Mashed Potatoes.

I've got maybe 10 bookmarked, but haven't made any yet...

I never have, but definitely will soon...that mac and cheese recipe looks excellent.

No, but a cookbook should inspire me.

Meatloaf 101 and it was very good!

No, but I have a vivid memory of watching her sling molten hot sugar - with nary a care! - over some vased branches as some sort of presentation. Lady's got spunk, that's for sure.

Her Chocolate Chunk cookies and this bacon/brown sugar/mustard appitizer thing.

chocolate chip cookies
and some lemon cake

I made her scrambled eggs and they were fantastic . I also made her blueberry scones and quickly had to make more as they went in a flash . YUMMY !

I have made her Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies..Wow Chewy & delicious

I have her Christmas Cookbook and made homemade marshmallows (wonderful) and sugar cookies with royal icing (delicious and beautiful).

I haven't made one that I know of

i've made her carrot cake .. it turned out great!

I've made a few from "Everyday" and like the simple ones she offers.

Never! But If I win this book, I will start using some of her recipes!

I made a cake once. It turned out great!

I've made her mac and cheese, think it's as good as it gets.

I have made the Golden Carrot Soup recipe from her Weddings cookbook and Planner for years - it is AWESOME!! I will not make another carrot soup recipe ever - it is tops there is nothing that could ever compare in my books.

I have made a cheese suffle and it was superior.

Never have, but I would like to try!

Oh, I've cooked from many many Martha recipes and I'd say that some standouts have been: pea and mint ravioli, a ham, green bean, and fontina frittatta, any of her cookie recipes and, of course, Martha's mac and cheese! Although she's known as being a very precise cook, I find that her recipes are largely about common sense, e.g. paying attention to properly seasoning your food and so forth. Long live Martha!

No, but I would if I won a free book.

I've made Martha's recipes before--I just can't remember what. But the next thing I'd like to make from her magazine is her recipe for a Jelly Roll. I'm going to use the strawberry jam I made in the summer. I'm very excited.

Not as of yet which is why I would LOVE this cookbook as everything I have seen her make always looks so yummy!

I've made chocolate chip cookies and they are delicious.

I haven't ever made any because I haven't got a martha cookbook...yet.

The only Martha recipe I ever used was her marshmallow recipe.

Pate brisee is legendary. The mahogany fried chicken turns out delish!

way too many to list all the fruit pies....and many of her cookies..i love martha and this would be a great gift for me

I have made lots of yummy desserts. I love Martha Stewart!

Her recipes seem to concentrate more on looks than taste, however I still try her recipes on occassion.

I've made her caramelized lemon tart...I'm a tad obsessed with Martha.

No I have never but I would love to try her recipes.

Never have, but always on the look out for new recipes :)

The only recipe I've tried was for carrot cake cookies, and, um... er... no comment.

I don't have any of her cookbooks though Id love one!! I did use one of her turkey recipes last Christmas. It was fabulous!

I made her meatloaf. It is wonderful nice and juicy.

I have never made anything, but would like to.

Never have, but would if I won this.

The Hot Crab dip from the Hor d'oeuvres Handbook rocks! I bring it to parties all the time and everyone wants the recipe.

I've only made 1 thing using a Martha Stewart recipe...Light Chicken Parmesan. I served it on a bed of spaghetti. It was wonderful!

Never used Martha.

I have never made any of Martha's recipes. :(

I've made her wicked witch cupcaked. They came out so cute and the buttercream was fantastic! =)

Never have, but when I get this cook book, I will !

I have never cooked from a Martha recipe, but I just copied the Mac & Cheese recipe from her book and this site to try as soon as possible.

No, I have not.

yes, I have. I watch her show daily.
I've made some chicken stock she recommends and it is YUM!

Not yet, but I'd love to start!

Well, if I win the contest, I will be able to start!

I did make something once, from the "Everyday Food" digest, but it didn't work out very well and truthfully I can't even remember what it was. I do have a few bookmarked holiday issues of the "Living" mag that I keep meaning to cook from. Maybe next year!

I made some gorgeous cupcakes and decorated them with icing flowers of all kinds for one of my daughters birthday, sorry I don't remember what they were called exactly. I recently saw a guest on Ms. Stewart's show make marshmallows covered with chocolate and I'm going to try that one next!! Thanks for the contest.

No, I've tried one.

Martha's pie crust is pretty trusty.

I made a green bean dish once from her "Everyday Food" magazine. It was super-tasty!

I've made some things from the hors d'ouvres book, but mostly I just drool over the gorgeous pictures!

I've made her Pizza Rustica and it is now the Italian sauage bread that my family eats for Easter. Yum!

I've made several recipes from her website and dvds. Most recently I made a mustard and herb crusted chicken, and a beef and barley soup. Her recipes always seem to work, and I have been coveting a Martha Cookbook for some time!

I haven't tried on yet, but I'd be willing to give it a go

Not yet. I've only ever used her gardening projects.

I'm a devoted fan of one of her past Halloween recipes... it was called "Shoo-Vampire Soup," and it was a fabulously garlicky potato-leek soup. I make it all the time. That could be why I don't have many friends...

No I have never cooked from a Martha Stewart recipe.

No, I've never cooked a Martha Stewert recipe, but I might someday!

I made that 4th of July Shortcake that was on the cover of July 2007 issue of Martha Stewart Living. It's a giant shortcake with a filling of strawberries, blueberries, and cream... that poke through stars cut out of the shortcake top. It was delicious.

I also made some hazelnut blondies. Also delicious.

I know I've made some other stuff as well... and I've flagged her beef stew for a cold winter night.

Not sure if this counts, but I cook from Everyday Food all the time.

Hi, I have been a subscriber to the "Martha Stewart Living" Magazine since its' inception. I also own many of her entertaining and holiday books. My husband is the cook in our home. We have not served one of her recipes because our sons are so picky about what they will eat!!!!! One son is now in college and the other son will be in a couple of years. Watch out Martha Stewart, here we come.....Thanks,Cindi
jchoppes[at]hotmail[dot]com

I baked a crumb cake recipe that was on her tv show many years ago, and I still make the recipe to this day. It is wonderful.

Never have. But I hope to!

I never have but will if I win this cookbook! Thank you for the contest!

I use her recipes all the time. Most recent was pasnips and brussell sprouts

I haven't yet; but let me win this book and I can guarantee you that I will.

I've made tons of Martha's recipes. I think my favorite one is her pumpkin pie - it was seriously one of the best pies I've ever eaten.

Thanks for the giveaway. Quite some time ago, I did bake some baked pears that had come out wonderful.

Made many, but my all-time fav is her Mac & Cheese - pure comfort in a bowl.

I baked a Irish Soda Bread from one of her magazines. It was an easy recipe to follow and the results were great.

Potatoe latkes they were ok

I haven't, but caramelized garlic and shallot pasta sounds good enough that I'd definitely try it.

I haven't yet had a chance to try anything of hers. I'm liking the look of the caramelized garlic recipe though. One to file away for the very near future :) Not sure if it is one for the kids though...

I would love to say yet but I have not got her cook book yet.

yes, her mac and cheese recipe is glorious.

nope. though i've been curious about the outcome of her recipes.

I haven't used any of her recipes, but this book would help change that!

Never have, but willing to give it a shot.

Not yet. I tried really hard to make her cherry pie, but couldn't find the cherries she called for in my area. I've torn out tons of her recipes, though, and they are in my "gotta try" pile.

Almond pound cake -- it was her recipe for wedding cake from the Baking with Julia series on PBS. Totally yummy.

sadly i've never had a Martha cookbook. I think it's about time that changed!

If I can't have Martha's kitchen, I'll take her book!

I never have, though I remember watching a show where she candied entire halves of grapefruit peels (not just little slices) to use as fruit cups!

I've made her rosemary-d leg of lamb, and it was delicious.

haven't yet, but that carmelized garlic/shallot goodness might get me started.

I have never cooked from a Martha recipe. *Thanks* for the giveaway!

I used to make the upside down plum cake from Everyday Food all the time. It was always great.

Never from one of her own books, but I did once make a half-sized version of that fantastic wedding cake with glazed grapes she contributed to "Baking With Julia" ... and it was superb.

not yet, but I'd like to.

I haven't yet, but this sure would be the perfect opportunity to start!

No, I haven't.

Every year for Passover I make her Chocolate Chunk Macaroons. And I like her Meatloaf 101.

we have her baking book, her brownies are great.

Not yet, but I'd like to.

I don't think I ever have....but I would be willing to try!

Wonder how the flavor of Martha's caramelized garlic compares with that method for "confit garlic" that that NYT article on Thomas Keller mentioned several months back...

Nope, haven't yet.

I just bought a Martha Stewart Ham and Costco for Christmas dinner. It looks great.

I haven't yet... I'm planning to make her Parker House Rolls recipe for Christmas.

I've used a lot of recipes from her Everyday Food magazine

tons of recipes- grilled chicken with orange glaze is great and roasted strawberry cheesecake has become my 'signature' desert!

I used her recipe for home-made ice cream

all the time.. tonight i'm making bread from her baking handbook

I have'nt tried it yet, but first time for everything :)

Haven't yet but mac 'n' cheese is on the to-do list!

No, I haven't.

way too many to list! martha's everyday food mag, baking book, and website are it. every recipe that I have used comes out fabulous.

I don't have a Martha cookbook, but I did get the mac and cheese recipe from my daughter. It's good!

I remember seeing shows with her mother as a guest. Lovely lady and a loss for Martha! It's a sadness!

I havent yet but she always has such yummy stuff on ger show! And yes, her mother was a sweet smart lady and cook!

spaghetti carbanara

Cookies and desserts from her recipes are always good!

yes, there are many but my favorite is called the washington cake- it gets better the longer you leave it alone and you actually bake the icing as a shell

Not used--but adapted a couple to suit my tastes.

have used so many, so often, that I sometimes want to lie when asked "where did you get the recipe?"--but frankly, they are always so good, I can't stop sharing or using.

On many occasions I have made Martha's twice baked potatoes from her Everyday cookbook. They are always a big hit and are very tasty. Egg, cheddar cheese, chives, sour cream... what is not to like. I have also made the tomato tart which is very good as well.

While I've done several Martha-inspired crafts, I can't say I've tried any of her recipes YET. Would love to win a copy & try a few!

I've made a bunch of Martha-desserts.

I'm a huge fan of her Baking Handbook, and I've made many things from it: biscuits, cookies, and apple pie to name a few. I haven't had the "guts" to try her birthday cake yet (the one with the meringue) but maybe in the new year!

I've also read Everyday Food - and cooked from it, everything from baking to main dishes, for years.

Would LOVE this cookbook! :)

I'm a big fan.........her vegetable recipes are always fabulous!

Never made one yet, but it sounds like she has many solid offerings.

Pan fried trout stuffed with sage- easy, nutritious, cheap and scrumptious.
It's on her recipe site.

I have most of the Everyday Food mags. I usually amend the recipes as I go, since they tend to need generally a little extra help. Especially with seasonings.
It's a good magazine for beginners and a great jump-off point for the rest of us.

I'm so ready!

Among other things, I made her layered chocolate crepe cake which was a complete disaster. I also made her caramel cashew cookies which were delicious. Delicious.

I have had "issues" with a lot of her recipes, but ever since I tried her method for roasting chicken- with a whole lemon in the cavity) I use it at least once a month.

I've made her 7-minute frosting before and it worked really nicely!

I've made her Chicken Italiano and wow is that delicious!

Cheesecake is so wonderful. Anything Martha stands out.

please enter me thanks

Haven't yet...but with this book I would! However, I have cooked from Everyday Foods, and thats Martha...lots of excellent food there!

I have not... but if I got this book, I'm sure I would!

I've never made one of her recipes but I did make a vanilla cupcake recipe this weekend that I found on her website. It was delicious!

I haven't - yet

I've never tried a Martha Stuart recipe but this pasta sounds great!

For the last three years, we've used her turkey recipe for Thanksgiving. Butter and wine as a baste - yum! We're garlic fans, too, so this recipe sounds great.

No, but willing to try one.

NO I HAVE NOT BUT WOULD LIKE TO.

all the baked goods I've tried have been fabulous!

Never cooked from a Martha Stewart recipe. I always thought the food would be pretty bland and we like ours spicy.

No, but I would like to try something for an 'event'

Martha who? I thought she was in jail.

I need this cookbook! I don't have any of her recipes! :)

I don't think I have, but I have several of her cookbooks!

I love everyday food and I have used many of those recipes. they're from martha stewart, right?

no but I use her tips.

nothing yet, hope to soon...

I have her appitizers cookbook and made something several years ago, I can't remember what it was now...

i made martha's cashew cookies for my partner; they were a big hit!

I haven't yet, but if I won this cookbook, I'd have the opportunity.

I don't believe I've ever used one of Martha's recipes, but if I had this cookbook I sure would.

I made her cinnamon sugar spritz, delectable!

I want a new cookbook!

martha usually makes excellent items

No, I have never made any of her recipes yet.

Not yet, but hopefully soon.

No I haven't yet

I've made a couple of recipes and they turned out great. Also, learned how to boil a perfect hard boiled egg, sounds weird, but it really was perfect.

Frozen lemonade many moons ago

nothing yet...but hopeful

I haven't, I've been too intimidated. But now I'm ready.

I haven't yet...because I'm a little worried I'll ruin it. But I'm willing to give it a go!

Never but I could use some help in the kitchen.

Never have, but I look forward to cookin' the book.

I have not looked at any of her cookbooks. But, once she had a recipe on her TV show for angel food cake made with whole wheat pasty flour that I made.

I like her hints on baking a ham and making it more tasteful. I usually only get a small canned ham but it still needs some dressing up just like the big boys.

I want to learn to cook.

I have made her apple pie, meatloaf, potato salad, and probably several others. I search her website whenever I am looking for recipes.

I haven't yet but i would love to!

Not yet, but I would soon like to!

No, I haven't.

Although, I watch her show, I've never tried an actual recipe - just used her tips.

Haven't yet but if I had the cookbook, I would try some.

Yes, chocolate chip cookies

Chicken Saltimbocca (sp?) , it was wonderful

yes,i cooked her turkey recipe last thanksgiving.

I love Martha. Everything turns out great....every time...

I enjoy watching Martha on TV!

Have never cooked from her recipes

i haven't, but her fruit galettes have been on my list forevs

Apple Pie.
I LOVE Martha Stewart. My friends, in reference to my hyper organization, gourmet cooking and endless craft projects, call me Martha Stewart on crack...which of course I take as a total compliment :)

The sainted sister-in-law cooks all the time and says that she's never had a failure with a MS recipe.

I love watching Martha show off all her projects. I can't help but think cooking something from her book would be an exciting adventure and would turn out scrumptious!

Yes I love her recipes...and would adore this book...

The Martha Stewart recipe that is most often used in our house is for Sugar Cookies.

I made my first Thanksgiving turkey from her turkey 101 recipe. It was delicious. No one knew it was my first time dealing with the huge bird!

I have never cooked a martha stewart recipe.

I made her Roast Turkey.

alexes chocolate chip cookies and many others

Regardless of what has happened...Martha Stewart set the standards
in the way America and beyond approach home decor and entertaining!

Macadamia Toffee Chip! Yummy

salmon with couscous pilaf - it was incredibly easy

No, I have never made a recipe from a Martha cookbook, but I sure would love to (I can if I win this book)

never cooked her recipes - that's why i want the book!

I have made her daughter's chocolate chip cookies....mmmm.

I made her macaroni and cheese. Something had always been wrong with mine and Martha's addition of grueyere cheese to the recipe fixed it. Very impressed and happy that someone else has the time to figure out all this nifty stuff because I sure don't!

Martha makes some amazing dishes.

Never have, but would like to, hopefully using this cookbook I want to win!

I have never cooked with a Martha recipe - Willing to give it a shop though!

Have tried several of her "Everyday" recipes and they all came out delicious...this cookbook would be a nice addition to my collection!

NOT YET BUT I WILL WHEN I WIN THE COOKBOOK!

I've made many of Martha's recipes over the years, the one that stands out was her lemon merange pie. Looked beautiful on the outside but it was a disaster when cut into all the contense gushed forth.

I had this thing about Martha for a while, I am just coming around this Christmas - I was flipping through her magazine in the bookstore ... she's amazing! Hopefully I'll try a recipe soon.

I have not yet, but I am ready to!

No, I've never tried one of her recipes.

I have made a few of her easier recipes, turned out great!

Icebox cookies from a Christmas issue about five years ago. Enough butter to kill, but very tasty.

Nope , but I guarantee you I will if I am one of the lucky five.

I haven't, but I loved her television shows and have always wanted to try lots of the things I've seen!

A few years back I made a cake that I found the recipe for in her magazine. Turned out great!

No, I haven't. You can make that happen, though!

I will make all of them once I win that cookbook!
But yeah, so far, zero, zilch, nada.

I tried Martha's 1-2-3-4 lemon layer cake this year and it was fantastic!

Not yet had the opportunity, but I've printed out several in the past that I've found intriguing!

Never, but willing to try

Her mac & cheese. Wonderful!

I tried her Challah bread french toast about 4 years ago for Christmas breakfast and that has become a standard at our Christmas table. Also, I learned to make the perfect hard-boiled egg. They make wonderful deviled eggs!

One of my favorites is from Everyday Food. I think the main dish was chicken, but the lemon-parmesan rice is just so delicious!

I have never cooked with a martha stewart cook book. I would love to try it.

Around Easter I made some Martha hot-cross buns. They were bunalicious.

I made a blueberry - lemon thyme(?) sorbet once -- it was wonderful!

I have cooked a few things from the Everyday Food magazines, but for the life of me, today I can't recall which ones! They turned out well, as I recall...

I have not but would like too

i cook a lot of stuff from her website - mostly pasta dishes. for some reason, i haven't baked using one of her recipes though. i also think her meatloaf is really moist!

Not yet!

LOVE TO WIN
GOD BLESS

I WOULD WATCH THE SHOW THEM WHILE IT WASD FRESH IN MY MIND MAKE IT ~

I wish my wife would try the cookbook. We could use some variety.

I would love this. I love to cook!!!

I've made a bunch of her simple pasta dishes from Everyday Food. They're not groundbreaking but they're easy, fresh, and tasty. I also made her Lime Meltaways, holiday cookies, for presents last year, and they were a hit.

My favorite recipe is Martha's mother's meatloaf. I make it at least once a month,

I havent tried any yet, but i would love to try one!

Not yet-but want to try some.Iam such a foodie.

Yes; among other things, I've made her Peirogi, which is part of our family's traditional Christmas Eve dinner.

I have made several of her recipes I love her pasta dishes and cakes

i've cooked a few things from Everday Food magazine, which is under the Martha blanket. i cooked a roasted cauliflower dish as well as this really amazing whole wheat pasta/escarole dinner that was so easy, yet so delicious!

No, not yet, but if I get a cookbook I will.

Applesauce Cookies - they've become the staple oatmeal raisin cookie of the household. I abstain from icing them though - they're sweet enough!

yes, an awesome chocolate cake

mac & chese, roast chicken

I think I made something from her website once but have no clue what it was.

I made a galette and some cookies from her recipes.

no but I should

I have - Salmon Steaks with Hoisin Glaze from the 'Food Everyday - Great Food Fast' book.

Lovely it was, too.

I made the cheese balls from her TV episode with Amy Sedaris where she cooked with A-1, aka bong water, except I decided to use real bong water and never got around to the recipe and just ate a pound of cheese.

I'm new to the whole cooking thing so I haven't used one of her recipes yet but would love to give it a try.

I have not, but am looking forward to trying some.

i love martha's recipes...especially from everyday food.

I have cooked a Martha recipe. It was a pear/cranberry tart. I was thinking I was all fancy - until my grandmother tasted it. She thought the cranberries were cherries, and was not at all pleased with the difference!

too many recipes to count!

martha is great

I haven't every used a Martha recipe, but sometimes I watch her TV shows.

I have never tried any of her recipes yet, but I am willing to.

I've never tried any of her recipes, but I'll bet they are mmm mmmm good!

I burn water, so I would like to change that if I win

...yes, as the photographs are very appealling.

Never have, but somehow have one of her cookbooks (I do not recall purchasing it). I have swiped her idea of serving dip in a hollowed-out red cabbage, though. Very attractive on the plate!

The wife says she's never used a Martha Stewart recipe.

I don't think I've ever used a recipe of hers, though I have several lined up to try from her magazines, and I'm sure I've been inspired in my everyday cooking by some of her suggestions.

No, but I would love to try some of her recipes.

I love making her Peanut Butter Surprise Cookies and eating it too!

hell no, she scares me!

I have made stuff from recipes she has on her website.

The only Martha recipe I've ever tried is a mega-hit every time I make it:
the Chocolate-Espresso Snowcaps.
FABULOUS cookies, fairly simple to make, and the best part is that they taste far more complicated than they are! Making them this weekend for a small holiday gathering, in fact.

I've made her pickles. They were so easy (no cook) and really good.

Nothing Yet

Yes. Potatoe Perogies

I've cooked all sorts of Martha stuff, but the only one I come back to is her 1-2-3-4 Lemon Cake recipe.

Yes, macaroni.

I made a recipe for double chocolate brownies one time; they were tasty, very dense, not my favorite brownie, but good.

I tried her recipes in the early 80's and hated them...they never worked....I vowed never to buy her books ...but recently...her STAFF has produced great work...I recently bought the Everyday Food cookbook..and it is quite good. I have looked at this Classic cookbook...and the second volume..but with my past experience with Martha...I am hesitant to buy them....If I win one...I will report back on Serious Eats!

haven't but I will if I will this book.

I like her show but have only tried a couple of recipes. One was for a vegetable soup that was wonderful.

I haven't yet, but would love to try a recipe out soon.

I have never cooked from a Martha Stewart recipe

yes to pie crust

I haven't used any of her recipes yet!

Oh god, more than I can count.

My theory is that Martha pays a lot of people to get it right. I don't have the kind of time to try, retest, alter... or, at least, rarely do I have. Made her barbie cake (big hit) and still use the basic cake recipe for other birthday cakes. Her muffins 101 recipe is a standard around her (though I have altered it to make applesauce muffins). Cheesecake, this latest spice cake with cream cheese frosting, mile-high lemon merangue (forgive spelling, please) pie - all excellent. Had the printed out page nearly glued to my left hand as I was cooking the thanksgiving turkey. Her brining recipe is right on and I wouldn't even consider cooking turkey without it - what a difference. I know this is a cooking forum, but I'd highly recommend the crafts as well. Often times their pretty easy, but still look so nice when finished that the kids are really proud of their work. Much better than the standard pot-holder (not to diss the pot-holder enthusiasts). Life can sometimes be so harried. I'm happy to accept help from wherever I can get it, and Martha's advice is usually dead on.

Not yet, but I will when I win this book. :)

From the Martha Stewart baking handbook I have baked:
1- the Linzer cookies
2- The marble loaf cake with icing
3- The chocolate chunk cookies
4- The pistachio and cranberry biscotti

The Baking Handbook is my go to cookbook when I am looking for something new. I haven't been disappointed yet!

I have Martha's pie book. I have made several of the pies with spectacular results. Right now it is out on loan to my daughter. Thanks.

I've made her coconut cream cheese pinwheel cookies. Painfully meticulous, but very pretty and delicious.

Yes, many times, I love to bake her recipes for cookies and I love the apple pie one too !

Yes, her fortune cookies are awesome!

all the time - most recently brined turkey!!

I haven't. But I've sat and watched her cook and drolled many, many times.

Not yet, but I will when I win the book

I haven't, but now I know what I'll be having with my grilled gruyère cheese sandwhich later!

not yet, but i'm going to try the mac n' cheese.

I don't think I have yet - although I just went through the January '08 issue of MSL magazine and dog-eared so many recipes I can't wait to try. That poached halibut in the magazine is on the menu for this Saturday night! I've just started to get in to cooking, and I'm thinking of trying her bread recipes this weekend, too - so a complete book of her recipes would be perfect right now!

Love the soup and sandwich combined into one meal with the bread floating on top - great idea!

i've made many of her recipes, can't remember them all!

No, I've never tried any of her recipies.

i've made a lot of her recipes from both everyday food and living,
but my favorite BY FAR is the cardamom streusel coffee cake —
so tasty and exotic!!

I have never tried any of her recipies, but watch her show everyday

Chocolate chunk cookies, as well as, the mac and cheese. Both excellent...

Soo many things. The first thing that comes to mind is her wine poached chicken with charmoula.

I like her mac & cheese recipe.

Have used her recipes and recipe books, but don't remember what was prepared.

I haven't but would love to try some from her cookbook

never have, but if i had the cookbook ...

I love Martha, I've gotten her magazine for years, and have made an untold number of recipes from the magazine. Including one domed sponge cake filled with toffee and raspberry cream, and glazed with chocolate ganache. Oh, also, the cake was soaked with framboise. That was insane actually, took three days, and I hated the cake by the end of it. I've had a much better time with others of her recipes. :)

Ooo, I made some sugar cookies once. The sort where you roll out the dough and cut the out the cookies w/ a cutter. The dough was WAAAAY too moist and sticky and I followed the recipe to a tee. Had to toss it out. Ick.
A couple of weeks ago, made a pumpkin spice layer cake from the Nov 07 Everyday Food magazine. It was heavenly and perfect. Yummiest cake ever.

I've never tried one of Martha's recipes. I'd like to though.

Not until I win the book!

Rob Morrison's Meatloaf - it was little dry.

I've not ever cooked a Martha Stewart recipe but my favorite Martha moment of all time was her discussion on Car Talk about cooking a turkey on the manifold on the way to Thanksgiving dinner! She matched Click and Clack every step of the way.

I haven't, but I know I've benefited from others having her books.

pie!pie!pie!

I haven't yet, but hope to soon!

chocolate chip cookies

Hi, I just bought my first Martha Stewart book, the baking one at the behest of my daughter, xochitlcooks and I love it. I would love to collect more of her books.
Jeri

Not that I know of but the mac and cheese sounds good enough to be worth a try.

never cooked but willing to try

Not yet, but I'd like to try some of her recipes.

I LOVE to cook but have actually never tried any of Martha Stewart's recipes that I can remember of but certainly would be more than willing to!

I've used suggestions from the TV program and been more than pleased.

I would love to own the book.

I have a couple books and often take ideas from them when I cook.

I've never used a Martha recipe; but, I'd like to try one now!

I've made many of Martha's recipes, but the following are some of my favorites of her baking: fruitcake, coconut layer cake, martha's birthday cake, linzer cookies, stollen. I also love her recipe for chili con carne and gnocchi.

I have never tried one of her recipes, but have used some of her craft ideas.

I find Marth'a recipes to be very very reliable. Well-tested and practically foolproof. Some favorites are a 'light' beef stew, a spring chicken ragout with lemony noodles, and pecan-orange granola. The latter is a favorite and we give jars of it away during the holidays.

No. Would like to try one of her baked goods.

it's worth a try!

I know I have tried her cookies. I can't remember the title of the receipe, but they were delicious.

Jalapeno cornbread from Everyday Food - and it's a keeper!

I have not! I also haven't seen Titanic. I'm a little behind.

I have never tried any of Martha's recipes yet.

Martha's recipe for cranberries is the best!

No I haven't tried one yet.

I've tried several of Martha's recipes. I particularly like her recipe for prime rib. Of course, I never met a prime rib I didn't like. LOL

No, I never have :(

never tried

I don't cook from recipes, but I have absolutely cooked "inspired by Martha" dishes many, many times.

I've made a roasted chicken and also chocolate chunk cookies - good, basic and easy. :D

Love cookbooks

God Bless
Good Luck to all
Merry Christmas
& Happy New Year Too

I haven't cooked yet, but I did make some delicious Sangria from one of her recipes

Salmon Quiche from her recipes.
I would love this book.

not yet but I hope to.

I know I've made several, but the only thing I can think of right now are the spiced nuts. Probably several cookies, too!

I have never cooked from a Martha Stewart cookbook but would sure love to give it a try.

I have a number of MS books mostly found at thrift stores and yard sales now I buy her magazine whenever I see it, but, for me, her best book ever is her 1989 Martha Stewart's Christmas book. The recipe for heart-shaped gingerbread cookies decorated with in lacy icing patterns is now a family favorite made for every occasion from Christmas to visiting a hospitalized friend. And her easy to follow steps for building a Gingerbread mansion have helped us to construct 4 of these sturdy but oh-so-delicious structures as holiday centerpieces over the years.

I have not been able to try a recipe yet of hers, but hopefully this would give me a chance to try one.

I made one of her tart recipes

I've never tried her recipes, but I like watching her show and seeing what she makes.

I made her candied grapefruit bowls once.

macadamia nut tart. It was delicious, but expensive!

Not yet, but i'm curious!

Looking forward to making Martha's holiday fruit cake but leaving without the nuts. Should be just as good.

her baking recipes are the best. i've made several including choc chip, green tea shortbread, choc ginger cookies.

I haven't gotten a chance, but i would like to try one!

Mm yes-her red velvet cake tastes like velvet (Really!)
michichan2@yahoo.ca

No, not yet. I need the cookbook.

Yes, I make Martha Stewart's Egg Salad which is quite good minus the madras curry powder.

I've made her savory biscotti from the Hors d'Oeuvres Handbook, as well as the Sweet and Salty Cake.

I love Martha's recipes! I make her sugar cookie cut-outs with royal icing for Christmas every year.

I'll be posting some photos at my website called The Farmers Marketer

I have never cooked one of her recipes but definitely ready to start.

I made her fruitcake recipes years ago and it was the best ever!

when I get the book i'll start

A great gift for my sister.

Nope, but if I win, I will make something and mail a sample to you :)

I haven't yet.

no,but i really want to (wink wink)

No, I haven't cooked from a Martha Stewart cook book yet but I am looking forward to trying it. Thank you for the chance to win.

I don't like Martha Stewart so I haven't read her cook book.

I don't like Martha Stewart either, but my mother loves her. This would make a great gift.

I made some Christmas cookies once that were featured in her magazine.

I cook from her Everyday Food little bitty mag ... most every recipe works terrificly. Most recently Chicken Drumbsticks with honey soy glaze. Yum.

Love the Shrimp and Fried Rice from her EverydayFood magazine; also go to her website and try many of her delicious recipes.

Have made lots of Martha stuff but her stuffed french toast made me the "breakfast queen" with my friends.

Glazed Ham...which I'm making again for Christmas this year.

I've never cooked from a Martha Stewart recipe, but I would like to.

I loved this book when my mom had it.

Never made any of her recipes

What haven't I made from Martha'a recipes... Macadamia toffee chip cookies, pate brisee and sucree, her chocolate cake with Mrs. Millman's frosting. More things than I can remember.

I probably have at some point, but I don't remember so I'll say no.

I decided to actually try one of her wedding cakes. I am all thumbs but with her recipe it came out beautifully!

Most recently I made her Coconut Cream pie with the chocolate macroon crust....it was devoured by my guests!

Yes, once. I don't remember the name of the recipe but they were a type of lemon cookie that she made on her show last year. They were really good!

Haven't tried any of her recipes yet, though I have my eye on a few of the holiday dishes.

Not yet - but I'm always up for something new and tasty!

Psst I been cooking Martha recipes since I was 14. She is old enough to be my mother. I often make Martha cakes, coffee cake, Ultimate chocolate cake, and a ton of others. I first became familiar with Nick Malgieri after I saw him on her show.

I never had much luck with french toast until I started doing it the "Martha way" ... no milk but a dash of vanilla and day-old bread, cut thick. Now it's perfect every time.

As someone who rallied against cookbook cooking for many years (my grandmother and mother both cooked by instinct, smell, and taste with very occasional direction from the old classics such as the Settlement Cookbook or Joy of Cooking) I finally found my way into Marthas books and recipes by chance. I have since made a wide variety of her offerings, but the one I ALWAYS come back to several times a year is her Ganache recipe. It is by far the easiest, and concistant of the many I have tried, and without fail is the one that gets the highest reviews (I use it to top off my personal twist on a casada cake - 2 layers of my grams homemade not from a box yellow cake with a layer of cannoli cream filling, enrobed in Martha's Ganache - mmmmmm.

BTW, just found the blog, and will absolutely be back for more!

I haven't cooked one of her recipes yet but did use her really cool Christmas cookie cutters this year.

Yes, I have cooked a Martha recipe before. I made lamb and cous cous, and some other things - generally I like her recipes.

i do a lot of her Everyday Food recipes.

Who is this Martha Stewart?

I'm a serious cook but I don't think I've ever used a Martha Stewart recipe except one time. I need this book to get acquainted.

Oh yes, Martha has helped to give a novice cook like me confidence! I started with her turkey meatballs (mmmm) and recently tackled her chicken salad on egg rolls (heaven)!

I would love to receive the cookbook and continue the journey... thanks!

I've made a few recipes from the Everyday Food mag, all of which were good.

I have the MS Hors D'oeuvres Handbook. I drool over the pictures, but end up making my old standbys.

I just start cooking (I got a family now) and I am looking for a good cook book for me to use.

Martha's recipes are always foolproof. I tend to look to them first when trying something I've not tackled before, like the first time I made red velvet cake (it turned out delish.) My favorites though are her biscotti recipes -- they create a flavorful biscotti that is not so rock hard as to require dipping in espresso (a nice option from time-to-time but a pain as a requirement to eat a quick snack.)

Nothing yet!

Actually, I don't think I ever have. :( So I guess I do need this book! lol

I don't have a copy of Martha's Book but I'd like to win one.

Nothing from Martha!

haven't tried any of her recipes yet.

Not yet, but soon I hope!

I tried Martha's chocolate chip cookies, but foolishly substituted egg whites, so I'd like to give another one a try with the right ingredients!

I LOVE MARTHA. YES, I HAVE BAKED SOMETHING FROM HER RECIPES - Lebkuchen - delicious. Thanks for this opportunity!

Martha has the best cooking shows. I love my wife's cooking when she uses Marthas

I do not have any of her recipes , but I colect recipes and I read the other comments and there are a LOT of recipes that I would love to try. I do enjoy watching her cook and entertain.

I made white and black cookies from her wedding cookbook for my own wedding. I had to bake the cookies and then dip one side in white icing, the other side in dark chocolate icing and let them dry. They were amazing! I also made chocolate covered spoons as wedding favors from watching her show.

I have the MS baking handbook and it's awesome! I have always had great luck with the recipes from the book and also ones pulled from her magazines.

I really like her cake recipes. The NY style cheesecake is a great standard recipe.

I actually have never tried any of her recipes and that is why I want the book.
