Cook the Book: 'The Bacon Cookbook'
This week's Cook the Book has a title that almost guarantees it success with a certain large and very vocal subsection of the population: The Bacon Cookbook
It's by James Villas and features 150 recipes inspired by bacon dishes from around the world. We've picked our five favorites from the book and will be featuring them all these week.

though i'd have to go with lentil soup with spicy sausage. you render the bacon, cook all the veg in it, AND add the bacon back in to the final product.

Speaking of bacon and peanut butter sandwiches, I was shopping in my local Kroger on Sunday and who did I spy in the bread aisle? None other than Elvis himself! No lie, an Elvis tribute artist in full jumpsuited regalia! Red with gold spangles. I didn't have my phone with me or I definitely would have snapped a picture! It was what I call a Mississippi Moment.

I make a pasta with bacon, shallots, garlic, chopped tomatoes, vodka, a splash of red sauce, and a touch of cream. . . it was originally a "what's in the fridge?" recipe, but now I make it all the time.

Candied bacon - it's addictive.
Bacon, brown, sugar, coarse ground pepper and chile powder.
Combine dry ingredients in a shallow pan. Dredge raw bacon slices in the mixture - pat in well to adhere.
Place on a foil lined, rimmed cookie sheet. Place in a preheated 350 oven for 20-25 minutes (no need to turn bacon while cooking.)
Drain well on several layers of paper towels. Let cool for a few minutes and start nibbiling.

last weeks quiche..... four strips of applewood smoked bacon slow fried crisp drained and crumbled, then cippiano onions sauteed in bacon grease,drained then, fresh aspargus fried in the bacon grease, drained, all combined with eggs, half and half and gruyere cheese to make a very very tasty dish!

With American strip bacon, it's a BLT. With loads of crispy iceberg lettuce, thinly sliced RIPE tomatoes, and slathered in Best Foods (aka Hellmans) mayo.
