I read that this morning. We just recently got a Canon Rebel XTi 400D and her suggestions were very good. I am just getting the knack of shooting SLR again. I am thinking there is room in the blogosphere for me.

She takes pretty decent snaps, the one recommendation I would have is to use a *depth of field preview* button that most SLRs have just to see how much of the photo will be in and out of focus.
While in most close up photography it's usually a good idea to use smaller apertures (ie F/11 down to F/22) to accomplish having what is important in the photo sharp, it's also a good idea to have some stuff out of focus so as not to have distracting backgrounds.
Usually smaller apertures also require longer shutter speeds also requiring the use of a tripod.
The preview will then show just how much is in or out of focus allowing you to choose which one will give you your optimal image.
I shoot loads of close up stuff usually Bio medical in nature. The same rules apply more so in this area.
