More on Batali and Food Network
ABCNews.com digs a little deeper into the story about Mario Batali's relationship with the Food Network. Serious Eats' own Ed Levine is quoted:
"Food Network has made a sharp turn away from celebrity chefs," he said. "They're not featuring great chefs; instead, they're creating their own stars out of good home cooks like Giatta [sic] De Laurentiis and Rachael Ray."

How unfortunate foodnetwork is moving away from featuring great chefs. I'm usually tuned in to watch technique or learn something a seasoned chef has to offer. Is Flay the only one left? and don't say Emeril.

Giada is not a home cook. Her reach is for simple italian fare which I might add never goes out of style. She lived a very privledged life and worked for Wolfgang Puck at Spago. She travels to Italy likes it is around the corner and I think her target audience is men. The pic of her covered in tomato sauce was supposed to be sexy. Little big head as we call her is selling herself, her food is not earthshaking.
The grandaughter of a filmmaker knows how to market herself. Sex appeal and pasta. These are two things her grandfather knows about since his family owned a pasta factory and he is a movie mogul.
Tuschman and crew want to sell us advertising. They constantly sell themselves out to the cheezewiz, ritz cracker, mayo people. They want to promote the network and they don't care what they have to do to do that.
I gave up on it almost 2 years ago when I watched in horror as SLOP (Sandra Lee) scooped out a pumpkin pie to make pumpkin tarts. If I scream at the tv too much I start losing my voice.

I don't see FoodTV, but I hear about it constantly. It's been a long time since anybody talked about the food. It's all about the personalities now, it seems, so why call it FoodTV? Why not "slightly titillating domestic sex TV"?
The last article I read about the shows was all about what kind of shirt the ladies had chosen to wear.
