Food Bloggers on Their Final Meals

20070731lastdigs.jpgIt's been a favorite topic here at Serious Eats—what would your last meal be? (It's been in Talk here and here, and Ed discussed it with the Village Voice.)

And now, the latest installment of the popular meme can be found on food blog Chew on That, where the editors asked several food bloggers what they'd eat for their last supper.

There's Tina from the Wandering Eater (she started our first Talk topic on the issue) opting for a meal at the French Laundry with friends; Deb from Smitten Kitchen goes for a surf and turf affair; Adam "The Amateur Gourmet" Roberts does a continent-hopping extravaganza in Atlanta, New York City and L.A.; and Serious Eats's own Robyn "The Girl Who Ate Everything" Lee can't make up her mind among pizza, Japanese katsu curry, and "pork-filled zongzi and fried pork dumplings with egg custard tarts for dessert."

There are many, many more bloggers on there with interesting takes on what they'd nosh on in their final hour—take a gander.

What would you scarf if the Angel of Death were looking over your shoulder?

Perhaps I'd like to keep my last meal similar to those I loved when I was young and undeveloped, my ultimate comfort food - my grandmother's spaghetti and meatballs with lots of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and the most white-bread ceaser salad ever.
That, or roasted duck of some description or another.

Thanks for posting this Adam! We had a ton of fun with this meme! I thought about what my own last meal would be, and I'd have to say:

salmon nigiri! A whole giant plate of it! Thanks again!

One giant waffle Ice Cream cone filled to the brim with the best quality mint chocolate chip and vanilla ice cream one can find......

.....shared with my mother and grandmother.

When I was a little girl and money was very scarce, this was the ultimate luxury. My grandmother would go and get me the biggest ice cream cone she could afford. And I would eat it very, very, very slowly....

Since it's my last meal, I'd be able to eat everything I haven't been able to tolerate forever. It would probably be called, "A bite of everything."

1. A piece or two of fried calamari and an onion ring.
2. A bite of Mom's matzo brei with real Heinz ketchup.
3. A taste of that wonderful walnut lentil pate from Angelika Kitchen.
4. 2 bites of of Vinnie's Sicilian pie (although we'd have to find Vinnie since his Somerset pizza joint closed earlier this year).
5. A bite of a samosa.
6. A sip of Coca-Cola (haven't had real Coke since 1996).
7. A big bite of baked macaroni and cheese.
8. A bite of a pork chop my husband made.
9. A bite of the Amateur Gourmet's lobster roll.
10. A bite of Mom's sweet potato pie.
11. A bite of a honey-dipped donut.
12. A sip or two of hot chocolate from Heidelberg.
13. A bite of a real fudgy brownie (not carob) with a spoonful real vanilla gelato from Venice.
14. A bite of baklava.
15. A bite of my own summer fruit pie.

There's probably more, but that seems like more than enough. ;)

Yay, thanks for posting about our little game Adam!

And that's QUITE a response hereandthe, I want a little of everything you are offering, and some BBQ ribs, a dragon roll (eel, avocado, shrimp tempura), mochi, and dark chocolate

Slashfood weighed in on the last meal meme a few weeks back, at the time I said I favored ultrafresh seafood and heritage pork. Since then I've rethought my final fress. If I opt for the pork option it will take place in Spain and revolve around acorn-finished pigs, everything from ham to bacon to the whole beast spit-roasted. Naturally such a feast would be accompanied by Spanish wines and comestibles.

Then again HTM's preference for homemade pasta has a lot of resonance for me. And not just because of the macaroni, I was weaned on Italian-American gravy. It was my first exposure to beef marrow.
