An Egg Within an Egg

20070730eggwithinegg.jpgIf you cook with bell peppers, you've probably cut one open at some time and have seen the phenomenon of the pepper within a pepper. But an egg within an egg is a little more freaky and rare.

It was the first Sydney University poultry science professor Tom Scott had seen in his 30-year career. He says a normal egg disturbed in the shell gland could move back up into the oviduct and start production all over again, resulting in an egg inside an egg.

Sorta puts a new spin on the "which came first" debate.

I love it when I get a pepper within a pepper. It's like you get to eat it's alien invader!

Ah. I knew I wasn't the only one who got a pepper within a pepper. I know I saw a blog post on the phenomenon before, but I can't seem to find it now.

The banner image on Becks and Posh has a pepper within a pepper that looks like a strawberry. That's a true cross-species alien invader.

Thanks, Tea. That's funny—I've looked at that banner often but never knew what was going on in that image. It *does* look like a strawberry.

Stop playing God - boycott eating eggs!

I once had an egg with two yolks...is that common??

I would normally say that anything within anything is usually a pretty delicious phenomenon (ie: cheese inside bread? delicious. ground pork and chives inside wonton? delicious). But an egg within an egg kinda creeps me out a bit.
I also hate when you get a half developed egg with eyes/beak/feet. grody.
