Photo of the Day: Fave Popsicle

potd-watermelonpopsicle.jpg

This beautiful, glimmering hot-pink watermelon ice cream treat is superlocal's favorite popsicle. Sadly, it might only be available in Korea. I wonder if it tastes as magical as it looks.

I have eaten this watermelon popsicle many times and it is one of the best. My daughter and I bought many of them in Tokyo.

It has cruchy chocolate candy seeds and the green tastes like watermelon rind!

Thanks for the link, noel! I actually found the popsicle at a local Korean supermarket today and it brought me a strangely large amount of happiness. I loved those chocolate candy seeds. :)

There's a chain of ice cream stores on the East Coast (in Maryland for sure) called Friendly's. In the summer, they used to sell a dessert with a name like "watermelon slice" that is very similar to this. The 'rind' is lemon sherbet (or maybe sorbet), while the 'flesh' is rasberry, and yes, it's flecked with chocolate chip 'seeds'. Very tasty! One could also buy a "half watermelon" to take home. It's been a long time since I've been in that part of the country, so I don't know if they still offer this tasty treat. I'd love to find a popsicle version! I'll have to try the Asian markets in my area.

Anonymom, I used to LOVE FRIENDLY'S! And I remember the watermelon thing: looks like it still exists. When I went to the restaurant though, I'd always get the clown cone sundae from the kid's menu. :)
