Crawfish Boil

I attended the Crawfish in the Cove event on Saturday. The Crawfish NY crew put on a fantastic event for a great cause. Even though event was sold out, there was plenty of room to get up to table and dig in. We ate more than our fill of crawfish, and they were still pouring more when we left. My only complaint and a minor one at that: no non-alcoholic beverages.
A crawfish boil traditionally consists of: crawfish, potatoes, corn on the cob, sausage, mushrooms, lemon and seasonings. Before the live crawfish go into the pot, they're soaked in a salt bath to purge them clean. Once they're good and clean, they go into the pot along with everything else. It all boils for 5-10 minutes, then another 10-15 minutes of soaking. When it's all done, the contents are poured over a table covered in newspaper and everyone digs in. A delicious mess! My photos from the event are on Flickr.
If you missed Crawfish in the Cove, never fear! Michael Arnone's 18th Annual Crawfish Fest at the Sussex County Fairgrounds, in Augusta, NJ is on Saturday June 2nd-Sunday June 3rd. Bus service from Port Authority will be able for hungry and car-less New Yorkers.
