Condé Nast Traveler's Hot List Tables 2007
Condé Nast Traveler's just released their Hot List Tables 2007: 95 of the best new restaurants from 30 countries, featuring dishes from $1 to $200.
I'd be impressed by the magazine's eaters if a staggering 37 of the restaurants listed weren't from the USA! Seriously, only two new places in all of India worth mentioning, and only one in Japan? Really? Uh, nice of you to put the list together, guys, but I don't know that it's really worth anyone's time.

I don't know about the other restaurants listed but I thought I was in "Never Never Land" when I saw the three Miami restaurants: Michy"s, Quattro Gastronomia Italian and David Bouley Evolution. We moved from Miami within the last 9 months...we lived there 30 years and rarely missed a weekend dinner "out on the town". None of these restaurant have been in business more than a year or so. Michele Bernstein of Michy's was the chef at Azul at the Mandarin Hotel, the food is excellent at Azul but friends tell me that Michy's offers "small" and "regular portions...and "small" is not large enough to qualify as an entree and the ambiance is just okay. I don't understand why Conde Nast would choose these restaurants for their Hot List when they haven't had time to prove themselves. Miami and Miami Beach restaurants come and go like the wind.

I don't get the list either. The one restaurant listed for New Orleans is (inexplicably) Riche. It's little more than a crappy casino restaurant which Todd English has little to nothing to do with. In fact the only good thing I have heard about it, is that people like the onion soup.
It's really a shame too. The fastest growing industry in this town since the storm is probably the restaurant industry. So many better choices to choose from.
