Don't Mess with Our Chocolate

chocolate_450w.jpg

Leave it to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to start messing with chocolate, one of life's perfect foods. The Chocolate Manufacturers have petitioned the government to change the basic formula of chocolate in order to use vegetable fat substitutes in place of cocoa butter, and to use milk substitutes in the place of nutritionally superior milk. Do these people have no shame? Will they be forced to call the new product "milk substitute chocolate?" Got a nice ring, doesn't it?

Sounds like the FDA is not messing with chocolate, the CMA is!

You're right. The FDA is only doing the CMA's bidding.

"Chocolate food product" or "milk chocolate food product" would be my guesses, much like "cheese food" or "cheese product."

Who can we petition to stop this insanity? What will happen to imported chocolates? Will they be banned?

Ewwww... and what is with that picture? Is that a green chocolate poop bar?

I think more appropriate would be veganized chocolate.

See, it sounds dirty...

The European Parliament once tried to legislate that British chocolate, because of high vegetable fat and sugar content in comparison to a low cocoa content, should be called "Vegolate" instead; they lost.

give us vegans a break! ;-) the best dark chocolate in the world is vegan. i happily do w/out the milk stuff, and "milk substitute" sounds even less appealing.
